Attempting to complete configuration of alpine on ubuntu.
I continue to get the following error while sending:
Sender address rejected: not owned by user <email address>
In the initial area of the error, it shows that my linux username is concatenated with the imap address
mail not sent: <username@imapaddress>
nowhere is this listed in my configuration.

You could try with:
user-domain=mail.privateemail.example.com

You are probably not setting up your From: field correctly. Here is a
guide on how to do it.

I'm glad Nancy McGough is still keeping her Web site up from so long
ago. She had very clear instructions for those new to Pine on how to
perform various tasks and to access features.

Hello Daniel,
Another thing you could try is to go to the Main menu and press "J"
for the journal (log). Maybe you can see something in there to give
you (and us) a hint.
Best regards,
Daniel

I found the solution above, from Eduardo. The journal provided the exact error I got on the ui.
my problem is solved now, however.
I'm glad that site's up, and if she ever takes it down, it'll at least
be on the internet archive.
