"The party you are trying to reach is not available"

I wrote to support@talkatone.com but have only received the confirmation autoresponse.

Here's what seems to be happening daily.
    1. iPhone randomly calls talkatone recipient and gets that message above.
    2. However if the recipient has recently used talkatone, the iPad rings.

if it's happening every day, then it's probably because the app isn't
active in the background for some reason, therefore it can't respond to
calls. after using the app, it remains active, but only for a period of
    time.

there are apis for voip apps to always remain active even if the app
itself is quit, and then ios will autolaunch the app for an incoming
call. one would think talkatone would be aware of how to do that
(versus a newbie developer writing their first voip app).

another thing to check is in settings>general>background app refresh,
    is it set to update?

Thank you for that suggestion that it may be that the Talkatone iPad app is going inactive and when it's inactive it won't pick up calls. It goes
directly to the Talkatone voice mail instead.

That seems to be the problem which I confirmed with a quick test by asking
the recipient to start up Talkatone and when I called after the recipient started Talkatone it rang the recipient's iPad.

In Settings:General:Background App Refresh the recipient has
    Background App Refresh=on
And every app listed below that is also on.

There is no line for Talkatone!

There is "Google Duo" on that alphabetical list.
    There is "Signal" also.
There is "Viber" in that list.
There is "Voice" (which is Google Voice).
    There is "Zoom" too.

    But not Talkatone.

This is what Talkatone support sent back.
I have to ask the recipient to test it out but it doesn't say that the Talkatone app has to be awake to ring upon receiving a call.

it sounds like they didn't understand the question and just followed a
    script.

Thank you for your email and interest in Talkatone.

We apologize for the delay in replying to your email. We have a large
volume of requests for assistance and we are still catching up.

1] What you are hearing when you call the other party is the generic
outbound voicemail greeting. The recipient can change the generic Talkatone voicemail greeting to a custom greeting.

The custom voicemail greeting option allows you to record your own
    personalized voicemail recording.

    1. First, go to the setting menu.

    2. Next, scroll down and select the Voicemail Greeting option.

    3. Then, select the Custom option.

    4. Next, select Record and begin recording your custom voicemail greeting.

You can select the Play button to hear an audio playback of your recording.

    5. If you are satisfied with your recording select Done to save your new
    custom voicemail greeting.

    6. Lastly, restart the app, so your changes can be saved and reflected on
    the app.

Video (https://goo.gl/CJsjwr) Instructions for your convenience.

2] For the recipient's iOS device:
If you don't receive sound for incoming calls/texts, please try to verify
    the following:

On your iDevice settings, please make sure that the Talkatone app is under Notifications, and the Allow Notifications feature is ON. Please make sure
all buttons are enabled. (see video Tutorial below)

If this doesn't help. Please check your volume settings on the device
    itself.

When on Talkatone, try the buttons on the side of your device, this should work.

If you are using an iPad make sure it is not muted. Please follow this link (http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085) to Apple's support pages for
instructions on how to fix this.

Alternatively try deleting the app and reinstalling it again and restart
    your device.

    Video Tutorial:

    Allow Notifications (http://goo.gl/Nu5Jyc)

They should try changing the current Talkatone ringtone to another
Talkatone ringtone. The current one may have a bad audio file.
You can change the current Talkatone ringtone under Settings (Advanced
Settings if applicable)/Notification and Sounds/Ring Tone.

3] In using our service, please bear in mind that call connections are
highly dependent on internet/data connections. Therefore, in areas of poor connections, you may experience connectivity issues affecting audio quality
    and app performance.

Often deleting/reinstalling the app and restarting your device will correct
    the issue.

    Hope this helps.

I wrote back saying the same thing.

Talkatone rings when the app has recently been used so most of what they
said to do makes no sense since it can't be the volume or a bad ringtone
file or a bad voice mail greeting.

Let's hope they get the message.

They responded saying that it's not that the app went to sleep.
    Here's what they wrote.

The app has a push notification feature, so the other Talkatone user will
not miss any calls or texts regardless if the app is open or not.
