It's unusual to find someone on an Apple newsgroup, which Tyrone is (I
looked at his posts) who says anything deep about any marketing dynamic (as Apple owners are generally only influenced by slick advertisements) so I
give a tiny bit of credit to this "Tyrone" fellow for understanding more
than the average iPhone poster does about Apple's sales figures.

While this "Tyrone" is wrong, as he's unaware that Samsung alone has been
the top seller for 12 years, he is probably alluding to the recent anomaly where Apple had momentarily (only once!) overtaken Samsung as the world's number one phone maker with strong sales in the December 2023 quarterly reports, but it turned out to likely be nothing more than a dying gasp.

Apple lost 10% of its sales in just the last quarter alone, where if Apple
can only have 9 more of similarly astonishing losing quarters, we could
maybe finally be rid of the one smartphone company in the world that has
never had any intention to interoperate with 85% of the phones in this
world (yes, messaging app - I'm speaking to you).

    Yep.

Apple usually releases new iPhone models around the middle of September. Samsung usually release new Galaxy models around the end of January.

At each of those times of year, the numbnuts with more money than sense
rush out to buy the latest new toy as soon as they can, which obviously
means that maker therefore gets higher sales figures in that quarter,
while the other maker's buyers are waiting for their new model to be
    released.

Wait six months and they'll swap postitions again.

But since "Android Owner" thinks it IS news, I'm
sure that he will be back next quarter (or whenever) to tell us that "Samsung loses top phonemaker spot to Apple". 🙄

Who cares. The brainless troll is in my killfile anyway.

world (yes, messaging app - I'm speaking to you).

Funny obsession of Android people over Apple's messaging app.

While no Android OEM wholly copied Apple's anti-consumer policy of removing
(or not ever supplying) basic hardware functionality (such as the
appropriate charger, 3.5mm jacks, portable memory, etc), Samsung at the
high end copied Apple's lucrative anti-consumer no-charger policy for its
    most expensive phones.

You do know that Apple phones (and iPads and Macs...) support many
competing messaging apps. To the point that in many large markets (such
as Europe) Apple's iMessage system is scantly used.

For a while I thought you understood how messaging works, but apparently
you don't understand there is only one default SMS/MMS app per device at
    any given time.

That you are unaware of something that incredibly basic, is worrisome.

The extent that Apple have improved its own Messages app (and underlying iMessage infrastructure to support it) for the benefit of Apple clients, should not irk Android users very much - but it certainly "stimulates" Android trolls into a lather.

Keeping in mind you are unaware there can only be one default SMS/MMS
messaging app on any device (yes, even on Apple devices)...

There are plenty of Android default messaging apps that do everything that
any Apple device can do, and more, since you can message using ANY device
with Android, whether that's Linux/Windows/Apple/Android, while with the
Apple messaging, you can ONLY message from an Apple device.

That you are unaware of this basic Android capability is worrisome.

And while messaging is indeed a big component of mobile phone use
(people would much rather text than call - and that is a good thing for
90% of communication - ig: "are you here yet?", "Where are you?", "Bring
home some milk."), it is far from the sole use of smartphones.

Nobody said that Apple's rabid anti-consumer policies are the only things
that makes iPhones far less functional than Android phones are.

In short, Android fanatics obsess over attacking Apple and Apple have
been kind to Android fanatics in freely giving them something to obsess
and attack. Keeps them off of the streets, I suppose.

You're trying to justify Apple's anti-consumer stance on interoperability.

What is being said is Apple's rabid anti-consumer policies mean Apple
devices lack interoperability and they lack common useful interoperable capabilities which most Android phones have always had and still do.

    Apple devices lack
    a. Interoperable SMS/MMS messaging (to/from/on any platform!)
    b. Interoperable bidirectional data transfer with the PC
    c. Interoperable portable memory
    d. Interoperable headphone capability
    e. Interoperable charging standards (cables & chargers)

Only the richest can afford Apple's rabid anti-consumer policies.

appropriate charger, 3.5mm jacks, portable memory, etc), Samsung at the
high end copied Apple's lucrative anti-consumer no-charger policy for its most expensive phones.

3.5mm jacks? Cripes, the 19th century technology argument is back.

    Well, proves it's another "Arlen".

Defaults don't matter. User choices matter. So, if you're using an
iPhone and a message comes in on (out of thin air) Signal, then your
phone bings or vibes and you look at the message. Or not.

That you are unaware of something that incredibly basic, is worrisome.

Your constant lies, deceptions and slants are not only not worrisome,
    they're just tedious. As always.

The extent that Apple have improved its own Messages app (and underlying
iMessage infrastructure to support it) for the benefit of Apple clients,
should not irk Android users very much - but it certainly "stimulates"
    Android trolls into a lather.

Keeping in mind you are unaware there can only be one default SMS/MMS messaging app on any device (yes, even on Apple devices)...

Answered above Troll. Stop the BS, lies and deceptions - even though
    that is your default mode.

There are plenty of Android default messaging apps that do everything that any Apple device can do, and more, since you can message using ANY device with Android, whether that's Linux/Windows/Apple/Android, while with the Apple messaging, you can ONLY message from an Apple device.

That you are unaware of this basic Android capability is worrisome.

Your constant lies, deceptions and slants are not only not worrisome,
    they're just tedious. As always.

And while messaging is indeed a big component of mobile phone use
(people would much rather text than call - and that is a good thing for
90% of communication - ig: "are you here yet?", "Where are you?", "Bring
home some milk."), it is far from the sole use of smartphones.

Nobody said that Apple's rabid anti-consumer policies are the only things that makes iPhones far less functional than Android phones are.

iPhones are every bit as functional as most people need. You can (and
will) haul out edge cases or dead cases (like 3.5mm earphone jacks), but
the rest of the world has moved on and is moving on.

(Including high end Android devices that have copied Apple in abandoning
    dead end features ...)

Answered above Troll. Stop the BS, lies and deceptions - even though
    that is your default mode.

    Apple devices lack
    a. Interoperable SMS/MMS messaging (to/from/on any platform!)

False. I can even SMS/MMS from my iMac to anyone via my iPhone. Because
MacOS and iOS play together and iOS provides that functionality to my
Mac - even if they are many km apart.

    b. Interoperable bidirectional data transfer with the PC

Workarounds exist (I don't know the details as with a Mac and iPhone
this is not much of an issue).

    c. Interoperable portable memory

Dead issue. Many Android phones are the same.

    d. Interoperable headphone capability

Dead issue. For many Android phones too - you need USB-C style jack -
there is no 3.5mm jack (aka 19th century technology).

    e. Interoperable charging standards (cables & chargers)

Sort of. I mean I can use all sorts of chargers that have USB-A style rectangular connectors to Lightning and now USB-C. Further there are a
long list of adaptors. So - you fail again. And again.

Only the richest can afford Apple's rabid anti-consumer policies.

Since Apple sell iPhones to a market of about 1B people, that statement
is objectively wrong. And of course the enduring value of Apple
products means a lively and affordable 2nd and 3rd hand market as well.

So, Troll, you've crashed and burned. Again.

The reason for the many links is Apple cultists will dispute anything they don't like about Apple, usually by claiming the news is "fake news" or by claiming the "source" is bad (eg by claiming they don't like Gordon or the Verge or Forbes, etc).

Nobody claimed your (already stale) news about iPhone sales were down,
