Do not buy. It only supports 2G which is more or less phased out everywhere or at the very least will be very, very patchy. Get a 4G Doro if that's the type of phone you want.

Right. Avoid 2G only phones.

How much internet do they do?

That will depend on the user.

If it has camera and video player, it can probably upload photos and
download videos, so it uses a lot of internet in those modes.

flip phones with internet functions require buying a data plan?

Are there especially cheap data plans for phones like the one above (not
the one above but a modern flip phone without the objection you point
out.) A lot of flip phones are sold by specific commpanies that market
to old people, iiuc. Consumer Cellular maybe, or maybe Cricket. Do
companies like that include data in their low-cost plans?

I was going to answer that same question, differently.

A: Plenty of tablets are designed with Wi-Fi only & they work just fine.

In addition, I have plenty of spare Android phones which have no SIM card.
They work just fine on Wi-Fi too.

Of course, this assumes the flip phone in question is capable of Wi-Fi.

You ask how much internet data is needed for pictures. I have a Moto
Pure G. It is not a flip phone. However I have a 1 gigabyte data
plan,that is more that adequate for the way I use the phone. I take
pictures, use it for email, etc. I use the Bluetooth feature to
transfer data between my phone and computer and have nothing in the cloud.

I don't send the pictures while using the data plan. I send them while
the phone is connected to the local internet. I also do any data-intensive-things while connected to the internet. In a normal month
I will use about 50 megabytes of data by using the map, checking for
locations etc. In one month where I used the data plan heavily, I used
about 600 megabytes of the data plan.

I don't ask the phone every second to do searches. In fact I very rarely
do searches on the phone. I never view video on the data plan.

As for you phone get a one capable of at least 4G. The reason, is that
many carrier are discontinuing supporting the lower xG phones. I have
found that most smartphones are poor phones, but are great replacements
for you Palm PDA.

If you are looking at the flip phone because of the price, there are
smart phones available in the same price ranges as the one you
refferenced. Walmart has is a couple smart phone in the $40 to $60
range.

Chris is correct in his response to micky, where I'll provide a bit of information for cellular data - after agreeing with Chris that Wi-Fi data amounts aren't usually a limiting factor with a phone (as Wi-Fi data limits
are subject to the Wi-Fi ISP's limits - which has nothing to do with the
phone - and where Wi-Fi calling can be done on a phone over Wi-Fi also).

Even as my kids are married and have moved out, they are still on my family plan, where they tend to use up about five to ten gigabytes per month of
the unlimited data T-Mobile gave most of us for free years ago, while my
wife and I barely scratch out enough cellular data to get out of the
kilobyte ranges into the megabytes per month.

This trend of the kids using vastly more data than their elders extends to their use of the 5GB/month hotspot/tethering (which are different things,
but T-Mobile considers them under the same monthly limits), where one kid
maxes out at 5GB while the other hovers around 3 or 4GB per month - and
while my wife and I are in the low kilobyte ranges, if that (depending on
the number of service outages affecting our local community WISP).

Hope this personal information I've kindly shared helps micky and others
learn more about how others use data on their phones, as I'm all about
helping others learn more from everyone else's experiences.

Not a 'plan' as such but they need the carrier to support mobile data, yes.

(it seems this phone doesn't support wifi, so all internet traffic would use mobile data)

The Internet function on that is likely so limited that it may be hard to
use a large amount of data through it. You may find there's a tariff with per-MB pricing that allows you to use the odd MB here and there, rather than paying for N GB per month.

I couldn't comment whether such things exist in the US.
