• Want number keyb oard to show all the time

From micky@21:1/5 to All on Sun Nov 10 14:46:00 2024
On a previous phone, a friend who is out of the country now fixed it so
the keyboard at the bottom showed numbers all the time. he did it so
fast I don't know what he did, but I didn't have to tap to get the
number keyboard** and then tap again to get letters.

How do I do this now?

**A difficult tap it was for some reason. I'd have to tap 3 or 4 times
for it to work. The phone doesn't generally have this problem and I got
an app that tests each pixel of the screen for tappability, and it
passed 100%. Yet tapping for the number keyboard almost never works on
the first or even second time. Why would that be?

As always, this depends on the brand, model and Android version and in
this case it also depend on the (software) type of keyboard.

That said, for my phone (Samsung Galaxy A51 Android 13 with Samsung
Keyboard) the relevant setting is in the 'Layout' part of the keyboard
settings [1]. The relevant switch is 'Number keys'. When off, there's no
row of (1 to 0) number keys. When on, there is.

But hopefully simpler: When my keyboard is shown, there is a settings
icon (cog-wheel) on the top row of the keyboard, which directly brings
you to the keyboard settings and hence to 'Layout'.

Yes, of course. I say that but I guess I forgot. At the time I think I
had a Blu phone so even if I'd seen what he'd done, it might not have
    helped.

(I was up in my unfinished attic just now and found 3 things I forgot to
    do, months ago.)

Yes, something very much like what you said and it's fixed. Hooray,
should have done this years ago. Thank you.
