I've plugged the Thunderbolt cable

plugs into the PC fine, but the drive

On one site recently I saw a review of the differnce between
the two USB and Thunderbolt. Thunderbolt uses cables with processors
at each end. That is why a Thunderbolt cable costs about $130.00.
This review contained images of the internal structure of the cables
under review whcih seem to have been x-rays.
The USB cables are not so complex.
Thunderbird host machines have a connection to a fast part of the cpu
that lets them access data a much greater rate than USB.
So what you are doing wrong is buying a Thunderbold
Drive and Dock without having a machine to support it.
Maybe there are Thunderbolt host cards that you could
use it with but I have no idea about that.
Good luck with all this.
