Yeah it was good, but Kevin James as president was a bit of a stretch lol. I
loved that guy in King of Queens, my favorite sitcom.

A bit of a stretch - but, politically, a "regular
    guy" WOULD have 'appeal' :-)

The evolving dynamic with the haughty DARPA gal
    was kinda interesting.

Anyway, the movie wasn't intended to be 'serious'
in the least ... kind of HAPPY for 'dumb' movies
that aren't trying for an Oscar. Such pretense
has ruined a lot of films.

The PREMISE was kind of interesting however ...
aliens who totally mistook old footage of a
    video-game contest. Such mistakes probably
    can/will happen.

Is that like the "historical documents" in _Galaxy Quest_?
    Brilliant concept.

Galaxy Quest was a much better movie, and did the concept a lot better,
IMO. I do like the visual effects of Pixels, though.

We laugh at that, but imagine if, in our first contact with advanced
aliens, it happened to us ...

It's a generally interesting theme ... 'aliens' may
NOT really grasp our current cultural paradigms,
    get an ENTIRELY wrong impression.

Hawking was mostly right - we should NOT be advertising
ourselves to The Universe at this time because we
Can't Cope. The 'aliens' probably DON'T think like
we do - empire/conquest/slavery - but MIGHT. What the
fuck would we DO with an alien incursion if they
were even 100 years advanced on our tech - much
    less 100,000 years ???

As best I can tell from the popular media, SOME
'aliens' have been here for thousands, maybe
hundreds of thousands, years. Forget 'conquest',
they're The Owners by right. Fortunately they
don't seem to think we're worth talking to.
We'd need like 200 more IQ points minimum .....
