• Any Experience - New ATT Router - Wired Conns Do Not Appear In Wireless

From c186282@21:1/5 to All on Fri Jul 25 01:22:41 2025
Recently HAD to change to a cell/wireless ATT router.
    Looks like a small blender.

Got it set up pretty well, of course fewer options
than the proceeding router, but there's one mystery
    I don't quite get.

It does have a couple of regular ethernet plugs.
Anything you plug into them CAN get internet and
the usual stuff. Note you MAY have to delete/
reinitialize the old connection stuff in Linux
boxes - old conn info remains in tables and
    prejudices future conns.

Alas, now, the wired conns are NOT accessible
to the wireless boxes. Both universes seem to
exist apart. Wasn't like this before - and it's
extremely inconvenient. Do NOT want everything
    wifi - too slow.

So, has anybody else run into this - MAYBE found
some secret router setting to bring the two
    universes together ???

Note ATT decided to stop supporting my better-DSL
connection WITHOUT NOTICE. Had to buy a damned
iPad just to set up the new unit. Don't love
iPads ... they 'think too different'. Hell,
even a few weeks notice from ATT, could have
used the old to set up the new !

Seemingly MISSING from the new router - the
ability to set the 'base address' for the
unit. Now it's stuck at .0.254 and all my
IOT stuff assumed .0.003 (legacy from older
systems). DID manage to reset the sub-net
    to .0.xxx instead of .1.xxx

Odd note, SOME of my IP cams DID eventually
come around to the new router base address.
Took about 8 hours. Must be some built-in
refresh interval. None were DHCP. In any
case my 'around the property' view is
    improving without extra work,

Alas ... my exact area has CRAPPY 5G
    coverage. Only occasionally see two
bars on the router no matter where
it's put. The avg speed is no better
than my old service ... but the price
is the same so I guess it's a wash.

Amazon DOES sell some 5G boosters, at
least one with a outdoor directional
antenna. MAY wanna buy sometime soon.

I don't NEED high speed for anything
that I do ... even 20-25mbps is enough
but I need it to be *consistent* - and
right now it isn't. Testing I sometimes
see 5, sometimes 35. It 'just depends'.

Note the GUI "advanced network manager" is
good for zapping obsolete SSID names. Found
probs with PIs alas - the abilities are
more crude. Debbish boxes and even Manjaro
boxes are much better at this. However you
do need a kbd/monitor. My remaining Manjaro
box is connected to my TV ... IP cam stuff
and some video streaming. Have bluetooth
keyboard however, easy to work on without
    leaving my lay-z-boy :-)

Manjaro IS good - but I don't like the update
thing ... insists on reloading the WHOLE system
every time, 2+ gigs. OpenSuse Tumbleweed is
the same. Mostly MX on everything now. Years
of support and 'middle-sized' - kinda ideal.

    OK, too much info. Cheers.
