Okaaaay...so have you ever tried Linux? A great distro is Linux Mint:

    https://linuxmint.com/download.php

You can download it, write it to a USB stick, and boot the stick to try
it out. If you like it, you can install it on your internal storage.

It even has a tool to shrink your Windows partition to make room
    for Linux.

OR -- since Linux is now part of Windows, you can just use the so-called "Windows Subsystem for Linux", and run Linux on Windows!

    https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/linux/install

    Good luck, and happy Linuxing.

if that's what i wanted i would've bought a computer with that on it

Other than ThinkPenguin, Tuxedo and System76 through an online purchase,
where will you find a machine that comes with Linux on it?

It's online too. I doubt you'll see a Linux computer at Best Buy, if
that's what you mean, but I seldom go there and am not looking for a
    computer when I do.

Panasonic certified their Toughbooks with RedHat and you probably can find
a SKU with Linux. Good luck with that. Navigating their site is something
else. I found that out when a site asked if they could use Toughbooks.

For their decision to give customers a choice to install Linux on the
laptop at purchase, I'll have to consider Dell the next time around. Nevertheless, with Linux, I will be able to go quite a while on my other machine without having to buy another. I'm sure that it will eventually
not be good enough to play the latest 3D games, but I'm a humongous fan
    of 2D platformers anyway.

My Fedora box is an older Dell. I upgraded the processor and added a SSD
when I switched from SUSE to Fedora but there was nothing wrong with the original components.

My work laptop and desktops are all Dell and have also been trouble free.
It took the company a while to realize that building desktops in the back
room really wasn't cost effective after replacing enough Brand X power supplies, hard drives, and mother boards.
