Okay. Is there a specific reason you opted to use it? Does it add
something you wanted or fix a known bug?

I build and boot the latest kernel in order to test the build, and
the kernel itself, on my workstation. Part of that is also making
sure the latest NVIDIA drivers work properly.
I've been looking at the Changelog, and haven't found anything major
(yet) that it fixes. (There are some minor fixes to wifi drivers
that probably don't affect me. Also, Linus has a fix at the very
end of the Changelog that looks like it prevents a problem with
epoll.)
Though the he previous kernel (.6) had a security mitigation for a
processor bug with some AMD processors, I just checked, and found
this:
$ cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/vulnerabilities/tsa
Not affected
So that apparently doesn't affect my threadripper.
Check the Changelog here:

(A lot of it is "inside baseball", and I don't pretend to understand
all of it, but I still try to keep up. :) )
I'm behind the times.
Need to pick up the pace.

Only the major versions, 6.16.x being the next major version series,
are important.
I agree. Although, I tend to wait awhile after the initial release for a
few minor updates before I go tinkering.

Ahh. :) This may seem like a dumb question on the surface being as Linux isn't the goto for gaming, but...I am curious.. Are you a Linux based gamer?
Or, are you by chance using this rig for crypto?
I'm curious as to what you
primarily do with the rig; especially now that you are specifically ensuring it won't have an issue with the NVIDIA drivers. If you were using Windows, I'd suspect gamer right off the bat. <G>
I do understand your pain concerning video drivers. I'm running a RADEON on this rig and it's actually using RADEON drivers! Yay. <G>

*larf* Hey, this is nothing though; I still have a dual pentium 3 800mhz dual CPU mated server system that's still in operation; I've ran Windows XP sp3 corp edition (with a legit key) for a very long time on it, prior to
that it was Windows 2000 SP4. It's an old Tyan Tiger 230 server board based system; 4 ram banks; but in my case, I have one that's offline; It has a burnt out trace on the mainboard; the magic smoke was released years ago
when a ram stick failed in a most spectacular manner. No biggie, the other 3 banks are still operational. She's an old rig and has been thru hell and back with me.

It's good that you take the time to check the docs before? you make critical changes to the system. FWIW, I consider a kernel change to be system critical. :) YMMV.

Ayep. This particular rig is running a significantly older AMD CPU that's
not vulnerable to nearly any of the checks performed by inxi; it comes with the MX Linux distro. Handy little utility.

I may as well go ahead and do that then. Although I'm using an older version and having no issues with the hardware. Other than your typical WINE flakiness with some apps; but a kernel update or rollback won't help me with that.
Thanks for sharing the kernel update information here!

Yet the Linux-based Steam Deck dominates the handheld gaming market, to
the point where Windows-based competitors are put in the shade.
And this is for Windows games!

Haha. Nice. I bet they run nice and smooth on your rig too, yea?

Nooooooo. Crypto is a ripoff.
I agree completely! I can't tell you how many rigs I've gone to do service work on that were essentially worn out from doing crypto mining 24/7 for as long as the machines would last. It does wear them out.
This machine didn't come with Windows. I added it to a virtual host
recently, installed Windows 11 Pro for Workstations, since I wanted to
mess with ReFS. Very disappointing. All I use it for now is for the
Windows native Kindle reader, since some books aren't readable with the
web reader.

Without a doubt!
[Linux is] just not the default OS for gaming.
I haven't played any Windows games in years myself. The last one was a
1st person shooter and I was storming the beaches at normandy (atleast I think that's where the character I played was stationed). I'm mostly
into the older games, via emulation on the consoles I grew up with as a
kid. Nintendo and Atari.

Basically that MSFT hasn't spent much, if any, time developing it.
For example, I wanted to resize my ReFS filesystem, and learned that it
isn't supported. That's when I replaced it with NTFS. I think ReFS is
all but abandonware at this stage, correct me if I'm wrong.

As far as I am personally concerned, Snit Michael Glasser of Prescott / Phoenix
Arizona is unable to produce a single direct post made by myself
to back up his claims.
That is because there are none.
He is also making claims against others like Gremlin, Carroll
and others and he also refuses to produce any direct statements
from those folks either.
Snit has now been shunned in ACW where the regulars will not
reply directly to snit or anything he posts so now he is going
bat shit crazy at the lack of attention, hence the ridiculous apologies and the like.
It won't work. I pity the Usenet group he moves to next. Fortunately
there is so much information on the Internet regarding
the lunatic Snit Michael Glasser of Prescott / Phoenix
Arizona, that people will not be fooled for very long.

Agreed. And stop posting things in alignment with white supremacist

people based on color, sexuality, religion, etc.
If there were so much white supremacy, the third world wouldn't be

Phoenix Arizona is unable to produce a single direct post made by
myself to back up his claims.
That is because there are none.
He is also making claims against others like Gremlin, Carroll and
others and he also refuses to produce any direct statements from those
folks either.
Snit has now been shunned in ACW where the regulars will not reply
directly to snit or anything he posts so now he is going bat shit crazy
at the lack of attention, hence the ridiculous apologies and the like.
It won't work. I pity the Usenet group he moves to next. Fortunately
there is so much information on the Internet regarding the lunatic Snit
Michael Glasser of Prescott / Phoenix Arizona, that people will not be
fooled for very long.
You would think that after having the users in a number of Usenet groups refuse to reply to him anymore, something would click in the head of

realizing that the problem is not everyone else, it's him.

Snit pulled his claims from his asshole. The same place he pulled the floodbot story he wrote about me. It's what he does. Yep.
That's how snit Michael Glasser of Prescott / Phoenix Arizona operates.
He is the most dishonest POS I have ever encountered.
I can now understand possibly why he can't work for a company where he

His insane claims about me were posted to other groups, probably by that other moron peescent, and even my liberal detractors have not jumped on
it and they surely would if there was any truth in snit's accusations.
TBH I have talked to my attorney at a family BBQ today, regarding this
snit BS and since I am a well known Internet person snit's false
accusations constitute libel even though my real name is not used.
It' similar to defaming a trademark like say Vaseline.
Hint: Usenet isn't the only place I am active.
If need be, I will crush snit and take from him whatever his ex hasn't
and I will give it to Anne as I have no need for money.
He can keep his dog and cat though.
I do have some sympathy for the snit troll as he is obviously mentally
ill. As long as he promises to not piss on either of them.
ROTFLMAO.

No, they don't. Not even remotely resembling such a thing. When a regular has said something to me, it's been about my being repetitive concerning my issues with snit; they understand and agree with me concerning what he went and did here towards me. To be clear, for all, Snit wrote a completely bullshit story accusing me of having a copy of the floodbot; either in source or compiled form. Snit has morphed this accusation to claim that I wrote the source code to the floodbot was mine; that I wrote the damn thing. None of snits claims concerning me, or steve carroll, concerning the floodbot are true. Snit continues to lie his fucking ass off.
If anything, the floodbot was a benefit for snit, not anyone else. It was used to assist snit in his efforts to search engine seed slime against several of us. IE: slang for google fucking a person. While not proven
beyond a doubt, it's most likely that snit ran the floodbot; because it was easily prevented from posting to usenet with a minor change via google. anyone else behind it would have the skills to retool it to access usenet
via another manner. Not Snit. Snit would be limited and fucked at that point. Coincidently, or not, that's how the floodbot was stopped. Interesting to note, yea?
The imbecile snit Michael Glasser of Prescott / Phoenix Arizona has it stuck >in his point skull that because I point out his trolling, lies and basically >everything deceptive he tries to con people with, it's because he's Jewish. >It's hilarious!

It makes sense.
Can you imagine snit in an office situation having to interact with
other human beings?
There would soon be a line of employees outside the HR division asking

The imbecile snit Michael Glasser of Prescott / Phoenix Arizona has it
stuck in his point skull that because I point out his trolling, lies and basically everything deceptive he tries to con people with, it's because
he's Jewish. It's hilarious!
For some reason he believes that is a factor and that's because he can
come up with no logical reason for the legions of people who tell him basically the same things I do.
Snit is a loon!
The other residents in that homeless shelter snit is allegedly living in
had better watch him carefully because he's crazy enough to snap and go postal.
Yep. His list for me though is actually pretty damn funny. :)
Indeed.
It's STOP for the snit troll.
Snit seems to enjoy being ridiculed in public.
It's odd behavior for a grown man.
Since his floodbot was rendered useless, snit admitted that his current trolling with % was for the purpose of diluting the groups message base.
Sounds a lot like what his floodbot was doing.
Yet another piece of circumstantial evidence showing snit as being
behind the floodbot.
BTW, snit's latest lie is claiming that you, I and the others were going
to avoid talking about him.
Snit's poor reading comprehension skills strike again as that is not
what was agreed upon.
We agreed to cease talking/posting/replying DIRECTLY TO SNIT.
See what a little shit liar snit Michael Glasser of Prescott / Phoenix Arizona is?
It also appears you have broken snit again.
He's behaving even more bizarre now that nobody except % and BD reply to
him. As always it will be entertaining to watch snit once again break
down in public!
