• OT: Evidence that social media is making people dumb

A guy wants to test the "theory" that dropping a plugged toaster into
your bathtub will hurt you. Don't worry, he's wearing a helmet to
prevent himself from further damaging his brain.

It wasn't WD-40 but a salesman for a similar product demonstrated its properties by spraying down an open relay and dropping it in the sink
while plugged in. It was a similar non-event.

the other night I had dinner at my favorite steakhouse and while waiting for my order to arrive I noticed 2 families sitting at 2 different tables. I'm assuming
they were both families as there was an adult male, female and each had 2 children
    probably early teens.

What troubled me was that every single person at both tables was glued to their phone. Even when the servers came by with their food, they didn't even move from their
    phones.
From what I could tell, there was little interaction or vocal conversation around either
    table.

It kind of scared me to think that this is what we have become.
The lyric "We are all just prisoners here of our own device" has come to pass.

It's part of why I don't want to have a smartphone anymore. A flip phone
will do. The only thing I will miss, I guess, is access to podcasts.
