We keep joking about “the year of the Linux desktop”, but the very
concept of “desktop” keeps getting nibbled away as Linux finds new
market segments to take away from Windows. Microsoft gave up on
Windows Media Center years ago, because it couldn’t compete with more versatile Linux-based Kodi boxes. Now Linux is also bringing PC gaming
to that same part of the home, and Windows is going to struggle
indeed, to stage any kind of comeback.
