    Now that's hilarious.

Movies based on video games have long had a reputation for being
low-quality cinema, but in recent years there had been some gradual >improvement. While few (none?) of them were _great_, at least they
weren't unwatchable, something both fans and non-gamers could enjoy.
It seemed like we'd reached some sort of turning point, where
Hollywood and Silicon Valley had come to a sort of accord, both
respecting the other enough to put the effort into producing a movie
    that wouldn't get instantly panned.
    <snip>

From a review I read, they literally ignored everything from the games
    to write a generic script.

Lilith is a bounty hunter. WTF?
Not a siren, not a vault hunter, oh and she's been hired to find ...

...Tiny Tina who is not an orphan, she's a runaway and Atlas (presumably
of Atlas Corp, is her dad.) WTF

Psycho, is not a horde of lunatics, but one named character. WTF?

    Etc.

Literally ignored all the source material, bolted on some names from the
games, hired a cast who I assume are in tax arrears, who phoned in their performances.

Kinda like a movie I saw back in the 80's - Tarnsman of Gor (based on
    the John Norman book)

Only it wasn't, it was a generic barbarian warlord film that used the
names of a few characters and 2 cities and that was it.

Wasn't on Gor, didn't have Tarns (Giant hawks they fought on vs other tarnsmen.)

It featured a cast of nobody you ever heard of, and I think was made in
    Italy.

But it sounds like Borderlands is worse, with the cast not just phoning
their performances in, they've gone back to smoke signals.

Randy Pitchford, CEO Gearbox (developer of Borderlands), tweeted* in
2019 that the Epic Game Store "will outpace Valve’s substantially" and
that "Steam in five or ten years [will] look like a dying store".
Also, "Epic will inevitably surpass Valve on features and quality of service".

It also amuses me that Gearbox announced "Borderlands 4" yesterday, doubtlessly expecting that the excitement about the movie would help
to hype up the game. Maybe they should have looked at the daily rushes
before scheduling the game's release date.

These tweets, the movie, Aliens: Colonial Marines, Duke Nukem
Forever... you know, it suddenly occurs to me that Pitchford may not
be the best person to lead a business. ;-)

That's just so horribly wrong it's laughable. Some of the responses
mentioned in article did make me chuckle though.

It's not really a surprise though. The early trailers --which

The "Borderlines" franchise seemed such an unlikely source material
for a movie anyway; it is an extremely shallow game with extremely
dumb humor and writing that I think_any_ director/writer would be hard-pressed to make something good out of it. Still, Lionsgate really
seemed to be dredging out the bottom of the barrel with this one.

Well I've played Tales From The Borderlands by Telltale games and that
managed to have a story that was enjoyable but still based in
Borderlands, some interesting characters and moments that didn't make me
laugh out loud but certainly got a small chuckle. So it's not as though
it can't be done with the right people involved. The movie sounds like a
right turkey though and something that I have no intention of putting
    myself through just in case.

glance... until you remember that price is less than retail
brick-n-mortar stores used to take. Developers flocked to Steam
because it was much CHEAPER to sell on Steam than to press CDs, print
boxes, ship the things to thousands of stores, and then only get a few
weeks on the shelf before their games got shoved to the bargain bin.
And yet, these same publishers still managed to make a profit.

Like you I kinda agree with the sentiment but also find it somewhat hypocritical coming from a company that was more than happy to slap a
£60 cost on a game and I presume when Borderlands 4 is released it will
be £70 just for the base game. I somehow doubt that he ever put his hand
up and said are we really giving our customers enough for that price,
couldn't we reduce it and still make a handsome profit.

Well, it makes sense to announce games in a game conference, like
GamesCon. But I think they'll hope to forget the movie as quickly as
possible. Funny, I checked my local theatre. For the upcoming four
showings of Borderlands the movie I see 104/104 seats available. And not showing it on Friday or Saturday either.

BTW, I'm not having high hopes for Borderlands 4. The gameplay in
Borderlands 3 was already so streamlined and at least one of the
characters so over-powered, it makes me wonder what the next one will be
like. "Just hold this button and watch the game play itself"? It's hard
to imagine anything but suckiness. Still, I'm probably going to play it
and probably sooner rather than later too.

    Which one was overpowered?

I hate melee in games like this so I never played the chunky Siren on
offer in Bl3, despite Sirens being my favorite in the previous games.

Yes, I didn't get much anywhere with her. Liked the other three, Zane

crits, even after they nerfed that.

I played Moze and Zane mostly, FL4K I could never really get into, tried

At least compared to pets in so many other games.

I could only really get into the Mech one, and it seemed pretty
powerful, so I assume it's that. Though I see people saying Zane if you
have the DLCs, and he was my favorite of the other ones. I didn't like
it enough to bother with the DLCs though.

I feel like BL has been overdone at this point, and they loaded it up

I might, but only after reading many reviews if it sounds like they
    haven't fucked it up.

The siren in bl3 was a massive disappointment after the ones in the
first 2, so I'm going to be extremely wary of bl4.

I don't know if Zane's that over powered without the DLCs, I guess
that'd be the one that provides a new skill tree then? But even without
