I still need to get around to Fallout London.

That's why its asking price seems so weirdly high. I get that it's
just the Day One price; that asking for that much implies a certain >expectation of value, and that more work was put into it than just an >AI-upscaling of textures.
It is most certainly pricey. I got the deluxe edition with the two
DLC's. I'm really looking forward to playing Shivering Isles again.

The base remastered game also includes the two DLCs from the original
game. The deluxe verion just adds horse armour and few other items,
plus the soundtrack and digital artbook.
Despite the game selling like gangbusters, I think this might
ultimately doom this version to becoming an also-ran when compared to
the older editions. Modding is the heart-and-soul of Bethesda RPGs,
and the biggest reason to play their janky games over other, better
titles. Without mods, the game just won't have the lifespan of the
older games.

I just bought it and played it for about an hour, still the tutorial
part and am loving it so far.
But I am not an Oblivian veteran. I think I will be playing if for
some time to come!

Oh...great.
I won't ever look at the art book or listen to the sound track.
But at least my horse will be protected.
It's the little things in life etc. etc.

I assume you played the original game. Are you addicted like those days? ;)
As for backlogs, I long ago accepted that I'm highly unlikely to ever
work my way through my entire backlog of games. I shall continue to
buy new games without ever worrying about what I haven't yet played, >otherwise I will never buy another game!

Bethesda has announced in its FAQ there will be no official mod
support for the new version of Oblivion.
https://help.bethesda.net/#en/answer/69672
Q: "Does The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered
support mods?"
A: "Mods are not officially supported for The Elder
Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered."
They've also indicated that modding tools won't be made available.

Which might be an intended goal for Bethesda. Unless you've got a live-service implemented into a game, you WANT players to
buy-then-abandon your older titles as quickly as possible. That way
they have to buy a new game from you. Playing the same game for
ten-plus years doesn't make a publisher money, after all.

Exactly. Well said. My list of games grows faster than I can play them
all. So be it. I just won't play them all then! If this is my biggest
problem in life, then I am doing just fine.
As for Oblivion.... Well, I not only never played the original (I own
it though), I never even played Daggerfall yet. The only Bethesda
games I ever played was Arena, Redguard and some their Terminator FPS
games. They were all mediocre at best.
Oh yeah, I forgot about that Terminator game. I played its demo.

You can get the base game for as little as £37 https://www.cdkeys.com/the-elder-scrolls-iv-oblivion-remastered-pc-steam
I am really enjoying replaying Oblivion so much.
Too many games, not enough time!

Skyrim or FO:3/NV for me were too much cookie cutter content and
probably the bigger one, the main quest got very repetitive very
quickly. Maybe I should have just ignored the main quest but that's
kinda where I though the vast majority of the content was.
That was one of the major complaints with the original "Oblivion";
there were only a limited number of assets available to the
developers, so a lot of the dungeons (and other locales) started
looking very samey. One of the major improvements with "Skyrim" was
that Bethesda created a lot of custom one-use assets to give locations
more individuality.
Too, the level-scaling in "Oblivion" was just awful. It was literally
easier to just NOT level up your character, because then even the
end-level monsters would still be relatively weak. "Oblivion" punished
you for getting better in the game. "Skyrim" still suffered from this
a little bit, but it wasn't as extreme.
Myself, I always liked how "Gothic" did it; all the monsters were pre-levelled, and if you, as a newbie player, happened to wander into
an area that was intended for someone who had reached max-level, well
you sort of deserved what was coming to you ;-)
by the end it was a more cautious "I'll wait to see if they fix things."
