Although, really, I don't care that much about the game itself. "Half
Life", for all its historical import, is passe. If it releases, well,
we'll see how it is, but it's not up there with the 'must buy' games
anymore. It's not quite library-fodder, but "Half Life 3"? It's about
as important to me right now as the next "Halo" installment.

Half Life certainly deserves its place in history but like you it's not >something that I think I really want that. Would I buy it though, of
course I would as I enjoy the formula of it and even now I probably
replay HL:2, or some of the episodes, every few years and still enjoy them.

I'm excited for HL3, but not so much as I was for HL2.
I was just thinking about which game release date last genuinely
excited me. I think it was Tiny Tina's Wonderlands.
I think there are far more games to be had these days. When game
releases seemed few and far between the anticipation was greater, for
me at least anyway.
I was excited about "Mechwarrior 5: Clans", enough so that I bought it
day one. That sure taught me a lesson. ;-)

I don't anticipate many games. If and when I want a new game to play I
look at what's available at that time for something that interests me.
I know, I know. Rumors of this stupid game getting released have been floating about for... well, how long has it been since "Half Life 2"?
'Cause that long. But it looks like this time there really, REALLY
might be some meat behind it.* That not only is the game in
development, but that it's already being playtested and maybe --just
maybe-- that there will be an official announcement later this summer,
and an actual RELEASE DATE this winter.

No, what I'm really interested in is: what product is Valve going to
attach "Half Life 3" to. Will it be a VR exclusive? A SteamDeck
exclusive? Some new version of Steam? Some sort of cloud-streaming subscription? Because I doubt Valve will allow the game to release
/without/ taking advantage of its marketability to the fullest.

That's my general view, I'll either go though my stash of games or see
what's on my wish list and is on a good sale.
Buying an actual new release is very rare for me.
Unless I have forgotten about any imminently upcoming games, my next
day one purchase will be Borderlands 4. I am genuinely looking forward
to that one.
Doom: The Dark Ages is on Gamepass, but I have very little appetite
for it. Doom 2016 was a shock for me because I thought it would be my
'go to' game for a least a few weeks. I got bored with it after around
6 hours cumulative over a few weeks. I really thought I liked it, and
then, I didn't after a while.
I tell myself that I would really like to see a Half-Life 3 soon, an
Unreal 3, or a Tiny Tina's Wonderlands sequel.

I think I just felt done with both BL and the looter shooter grind by
3. I was also not impressed on what I heard about the DLCs and never
got them, but was constantly reminded to get them in game which I
found highly irritating.
I enjoyed playing the girl with the mech, but didn't have any interest
in continuing after finishing the game with her. I can't see myself
buying BL 4.

I got the initial batch of four DLCs but they weren't that good. There
was a horror themed one and a western themed one and I can't even
remember the others. Oh, now that I checked, the first one was a kind of
BL2 throwback, a heist on some Hyperion space station. So lots of the
loader bots and I remember this was actually fun. Only issue, BL3 isn't
so heavy on needing corrosive weapons so I didn't have much but I think
the DLC drops may have been tuned with that in mind.

I specifically wanted to see if she was going to be any less OP in PT2
but no. I was so amazed I just went and finished PT2 with her :) I mean,
for sure she was a little more vulnerable when on foot but in the mech >nothing could touch her. I think with some of the bosses you had to
fight on foot at least some of the time so there was that but that still >didn't really change anything, difficulty-wise.
And with the legendary class mod you get twice the time in the mech
which is enough to be there almost all the time, the cooldown finishes
before the mech self destructs.

After the 2016 Doom I felt pretty much Doomed out. I would've really
liked a new game+ with all the weapon upgrades but it wasn't there. I
watched some gameplay video of the whatsit sequel between 2016 and Dork
Ages and wasn't impressed so didn't bother. I guess it'd work for some senseless mayhem but it also feels like maybe I'm getting old and
getting through the hectic battle arenas and challenges in 2016 already
felt taxing.

You played Wonderlands? I tried but it just felt kinda like Borderlands
but too much the same old and too much silly stuff. IOW, what sorta
kinda mostly worked as a largish BL2 DLC didn't seem to scale well to a
full game. Tiny Tina works in small doses but gets old quickly.

I get excited for indie games, sometimes. Like Deltarune or Dreamsettler
or Desktop Survivors 97 (why do they all start with d?)
I generally don't get excited as I've never played them, so don't know
if I'll like them.
The few sequels I did get excited for because I loved the original so
much were all huge disappointments. Even though they still had really
good scores on Steam. Risk of Rain 2, and Everspace 2 being the most notable. They're both on my 'give 'em another try' list, I just haven't gotten around to it.
Probably all the shovelware indy games that get given away everywhere
don't help either.
FL4K was just about OK but I much preferred Zane and then Amara, in
that order.
Perhaps a subject for a new thread? I *HATE* boss fights, always have
done, always will do too. I have abandoned many a game because of the
boss mechanic.
