Thanks to Steam transaction history where most of my gaming purchases
have been made since 2007 or so, it was not as easy as I'd like it to
be to work out, but not too bad. I needed to clean up a lot of shit
in a a spreadsheet (balancing negative amounts due to refunds against positive).
Overall it came out to a little under $20 a month over an 18 year time period. I might have had more fun automating the spreadsheet editing
than I did playing most of the games listed as paid on it.
There have been a few outside of Steam purchases over the years, like
RDR2 from Rockstar store direct (the "special horse" I got from that
turned out to be a fantastic decision that I went into skeptical), a
few purchases from Blizzard etc over the years but its nothing that
would put the average over $20 a month.
Overall honestly that's pretty cheap entertainment given what I got
out of it. Especially up against shopping allowances for instagram
models, the weekend hotel and travel they liked, and all of the other
shit I've fucked away money on.
I suppose our resident troll might have something to say about all of
this. And, if that's the case I'll make a decision on whether to
fully dox him here and now and at other life impact points, as I know
who he is and if he turns the clock back a few years I think he knows
I know who he is.
$0 ;)

I'll be honest, I usually don't spend much money on /gaming/. The most
recent purchase I've done would be Deltarune back on the 6th, whic was >100000% worth it.

Yeah, same here. I once spent a small fortune on games when I was
younger. Now I only buy games once in awhile and usually when they are
on sale. And those games are always indie titles.

If your gaming expenses over 18 years are that low, it could be an
indicator your Instagram girl shopping budget is set too high :)

Between the freebies and Spalls giveaways, I really just don't need
to.
<shifty glance>
Umm, yeah, me too. Yup, no game-spending going on here. Nope. All
these games were acquired for free. Or pirated! Yeah, massive amounts
of pirating. I definitely don't have a spending problem with video
games. Assuredly I didn't buy a new game in the last 24 hours.* Why
would you think that? That Outlook folder marked "Steam Receipts?"
Erm... ummm... it's my porn-stash? I DON'T NEED AN INTERVENTION GIVE
ME BACK MY CREDIT CARD!!!1!!!1!!
;-)
* technically it was DLC. But I didn't buy that either, honest.

That $20/mo was averaged out over 18 years. The monthly amount would
surely be higher if I used the first 7-8 years of that time period as
a basis. When Steam (automated) refunds became possible (about 2015 I think), my monthly spend dropped substantially. That, plus the market getting saturated to the point where heavy discounts became more
prevalent (in my case mostly only applicable to single player titles
where there isn't really a time advantage to early adoption), and then
of course the "we can't give this shit away" freebie trend.

What theoretical game?
This seems suspiciously like a trap to get me to admit I purchased a
game I just vehmenently (and convincingly!) denied buying. So let's
see what happens if I trigger it. ;-)
I purchased the newest "Alberta Preserve" expansion DLC for
"theHunter: Call of the Wild", which is my secret shame. Not even so
much because it's an increasingly average hunting game that's direly
in need of a refresh, but because at this point I'm pretty much buying
the expansions just so I have them in my library. I'll be the first to
admit the last expansions were pretty 'mid' (as the kids say) and I
really don't expect this one to be any better.
But I bought it anyway.

Except, of course, I really didn't, because I don't have a spending
problem with regards to video games and am totally in control of my
habit. I just said all the above to see what would happen if I fell
into your cunning ambush. ;-)

Neat. I was never one for hunting games, lol :D
Neither am I. I don't actually hunt the cute fuzzies in the game.
They're too cute and fuzzy to watch them bleed out! I just use it to virtually hike through the wilderness. Its maps are sizeable and -when
it released in 2017- its visuals were cutting edge. As I mentioned
earlier, its digital wilderness helped keep me sane (or as close to
sanity as I get) throughout the lockdowns, and it got a special place
in my heart for that effort.
Well, sometimes I do stalk the critters a bit, but the only thing I
shoot them with is the screenshot tool.
