• Perifractic acquired Commodore

To also start that conversation here:

What do you guys think about Christian "Perifractic" Simpson having bought Commodore?
I can see people talking about what sense this makes all over the world, because only few believe that he will be able to recreate that company as a successful business that also makes profit.

However, as I understand his two videos about that topic, he has a vision of bringing back what once was a company envisioning a future that has somewhat been replaced with misuse of so called social media and doomscrolling. Christians vision is all about bringing back the joy of science, learning and experimenting with hardware and software delivered for an affordable price. However, I personally think that there are already devices that do this job. Arduino compatible micro controllers and raspberry pi to name only two. And the latter even supersedes the long time claim of the C64 being the most sold computer of all time.

I am looking very forward to whatever may come, because Christian is a real retro enthusiast.
I am also curious about the latest cliffhanger in Video 2... so let's see what's up next exactly in Video 3.

    My educated guess would be:
A real (!) new Commodore C64 being manufactured from all new components featuring parts from different individuals finaly come together - using an officially licensed Commodore logo.
For Christian a dream becoming true.

I think it's great. I always wondered what his real name was. There's an interesting YT vid by Retrocombs where he goes into some detail about the acqusition; it was his latest live cast.

The glory days of Commodore were long time in the past. I am deeply
pessimistic about them ever coming back.

I have been using UNIX/Linux/FreeBSD for over 30 years now and
probably nothing Commodore could offer could replace it.

I cant wait to see how it pans out, bringing Commodore back officially is gonna be awesome. Been watching Peri's vids for years and love everything he does.

Even without the possibility of a new Commodore64 being produced, I would think there would be quite a market for just the new chips such as the SID and VIC II. As supplies have dried up, leading to people canabalizing what would otherwise be repairable machines.

    What about a Commodore 128, or 65s?

I would actually like to see a Hybrid TED, the increased color pallet and UARTS on the serial bus plus memory would be an interesting BBS machine..

I def would love to see 128 gets some retro love. I mean I love the Vic 20 and the 64 but I loved the 128 using CPM on as well.

Yeah I watched the news .. as ex-employee of Tulip Computers NV I was involved with the
Commodore E-vic (the MP3 player) and saw that they changed the logo (Ugh .. ) And saw the C64DTV joystick being sold in the US when the brand was licensed..

After that a lot of things happened .. but than it was already of my desk ;)

    Dennis

    ... I don't troubleshoot; I blame the vendor.

For the most part, so do I, but format-wise, I prefer his earlier vids.

Oh yeah, good call! All of those new replacement chips like the BackSID
and Kawari and such could now go under the C= name, too! As long as all
the I.P. owners play nice and don't get into any disputes over things in
the future. Like if the Kawari becomes the Commodore Kawari, all the
profits and whatnot should probably go straight to the Kawari makers,
    etc.

After seeing the mods you could do to it to make it a real C=, I really
wanted one of those joysticks and was bummed I didn't pick one up when I
had the chance. A friend of mine at the time got two of them, one for
him and one for his brother, and he had told me that when he moves away
I could have his, but that never happened :).
