• PhotoDesk 3.23 released

    From Andrew Rawnsley@21:1/5 to All on Thu Apr 25 21:00:03 2024
    We are pleased to announce the release of PhotoDesk 3.23, which introduces support for loading and saving in the WebP web graphic format. It also
    refines the QOI image support introduced in 3.22 and fixes a huge raft of
    bugs and issues.

    There is also proper support for computers with 4GB RAM+ and updated interactive help, too.

    Thanks to Richard and Raik for their input.

    And yes, it's another whopper of an update!

    As usual, it is a free download for anyone who bought the XAT edition of PhotoDesk - available now on !Store.

    Changes in 3.23 XAT
    ===================

    Fixes:
    ~~~~~
    Can now adjust memory on machines with more than 2Gb memory without
    crashing. Other improvements also made to copy with huge memory (>2Gb).
    Removed duplicate call to format handler to check if it can save the
    Image.
    Can now use either Ctrl key to change the Image cache values in the
    Preferences window.
    No longer sends a click in icon 1 (the filename) in the Save(As) window to
    the Format handler.
    Fixed logic in key presses when swapping Y and Z keys on a German
    keyboard.
    Added missing "Format options" button in Templates for Switzerland
    (Territory 35).
    When more than one Layer is selected, the "Selection" menu entry is now enabled; the only menu option is "Remove".
    Removing a Layer via the menu now works.
    Renaming or copying a Layer with an empty string is ignored.
    Renaming or copying a Layer no longer allows more than 11 characters to be entered if the Layer is not Layer 0.
    Renaming a Channel no longer allows more than 11 characters to be entered.
    Also reduced menu definition in Messages file to match.
    Entering a new name in the Rename Channel menu but then pressing Escape to cancel, no longer renames the Channel.
    Renaming an Image with an empty string no longer triggers an abort.
    Copying or Renaming an Image no longer leaves the menu open when clicking
    with Select or using the Enter key.
    Copying an Image with an empty string is ignored.
    Corrected order of icons in Create new image and Print image windows so
    caret moves in expected order down the window. Templates amended.
    Corrected a number of interactive help entries and added a number of
    missing help entries.
    A number of other minor bug fixes implemented.
    Enhancements:
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~

    Removed code still in place from copyright protection.

    Debug routines moved into a separate library in the Utilities directory
    and only loaded when debug is enabled via the PhotoDesk$DebugString system variable.

    Now validates values when loading Preferences file.

    Tightened up format handler checking when creating the SaveAs format menu.

    When opening the Save(As) window it will avoid fully covering the iconbar.

    Interactive help now available on those format handlers which have extra
    icons in the Save(As) window.

    Interactive help added for the Grid window, New Layer window.

    Interactive help on labels for percentage, degrees, units and dpi should
    now be consistent across all the windows.

    Interactive help on up and down arrows should be the same across all
    windows, except where different text is necessary (eg The memory settings
    in the Preferences window).

    Added interactive help for the "Format options" button in Preferences.

    Clicking Select on the "Format options" button in Preferences now opens
    the options for the selected format. Clicking with Adjust opens the
    Formats directory.

    Clicking Select on the iconbar icon with the Shift key held down opens the Preferences window.

    In Preferences the default DPI is limited to between 1 and 9999. If it is
    blank then it will default to 90. Variable MaxDPI% added to store maximum.

    In Preferences, if opacity is blank then it will default to 50.

    In Preferences, border size is limited to between 0 and 600. If it is
    blank then it will default to 50. Variable MaxBrdrSize% added to store
    maximum. Also restricted Display menu Border width.

    Disabled Scanner menu entries on Clipboard menu if TWAIN is not loaded.

    Removed calls to Photodesk_MiscOp 8 as it always returns 0.
    Also removed err11 and err12 from Messages file.

    Pressing Escape in Resize, Rotate, Calculate, Print, SaveAs closes the
    window.

    Grid window now responds to key presses.

    Pressing Enter in the last icon of the Print window now prints the image
    as one would expect.

    When changing the Image mode the Channels menu is closed even when
    clicking with Adjust.

    Adding a Layer now ensures the Indexed image conversion window is closed,
    as not allowed to change Image mode if the Image has Layers.

    If you create a Layer with an empty name it now defaults to Layer<N> where
    <N> is the Layer number.

    Creating a Channel with an empty name now defaults to Alpha<N> where <N>
    is the number of Alpha channels. The first Channel is just "Alpha" without
    a number, and the next Channel will be "Alpha2".

    Creating an Image with an empty name now defaults to Untitled<NNN> where
    <NNN> is an incrementing number.

    Templates for Create Image and Resize Image have max length of dpi icons
    set to 4 characters to restrict dpi to 9999.

    When creating or resizing an Image, if dpi is 0 or blank then will default
    to 90.

    Channel and Layer windows, as well as Print, Resize, and Rotate Image
    windows, gain and lose the caret.

    A number of other minor enhancements made.
