• The WROCC Vol 42 Issue 8 Out Now

From WROCC@21:1/5 to All on Mon Dec 2 07:45:02 2024
The November 2024 issue of 'The WROCC' -- the newsletter of the Wakefield
RISC OS Computer Club -- will be on its way out to members across the UK and beyond this week.

In this issue, Ian Stanley investigates a set of circuit boards which allow
a replica Acorn Atom to be built inside an Electron or BBC Micro case, while Chris Hall recounts a project to document and animate mechanical signal
boxes from the Great Western Railway using drawfiles.

As our members will know, we've been playing catch-up recently after a
hiatus whilst our newsletter team were focussing on other projects -- but we have now successfully published all of the missing issues from the start of Volume 42. Over the past few months we have also carried articles on the use
of NVMe on RISC OS and the creation of dual-boot systems with RISC OS and Linux, the OLE Protocol, a Real Time Clock for the PiRO-Qube, the structure
of drawfiles, PDF readers, reliably using a Pi 'headless' over VNC, one of
our members' approach to software development, the origins of the Club's meeting video intro, a report on April's Wakefield Acorn & RISC OS Computer Show, and regular updates on the RISC OS software scene.

We're also pleased to report that work is well underway on the December
issue, which -- all going well -- should be with members in the next couple
    of weeks.

See https://www.wrocc.org.uk/newsletter for more details of recent issues,
and to download samples of older ones.

Able to trace its roots directly back to the first Wakefield Club newsletter
in April 1983, these days 'The WROCC' is produced in an A5 booklet layout
and copies are delivered free to WROCC members in PDF format. Membership of
the Club costs 7.50ukp per year... and despite our name, there are no geographical restrictions.

The Wakefield Back Catalogue Issue 14
    -------------------------------------

Relaunched following the completion of Volume 41 of 'The WROCC' in April
2024, the fourteenth edition of The Wakefield Back Catalogue contains PDF copies of the Club's monthly newsletters going from 'The WROCC' and 'Awake' right back to the very first "hints & tips" sheet handed out at the April
    1983 meeting.

The new compilation contains around 450 issues and is available as a
download in these more 'virtual' times. It costs 7.50ukp for non-members, whilst members can buy it for the discounted price of 5.00ukp. See https://www.wrocc.org.uk/newsletter for more details.
