    I still have hermesdiscuss@yahoogroups.com in my lists which I believe
    went defunct some time ago.
    I think I left it there during the change over period and forgot to
    expunge it. I presume that's well and truly dead now.

    Yes, yahoogroups.com died some time ago. and hence why a number of mailing lists moved to use the services kindly provided via riscository.
