Is the archive-online mailing list still active?

I've not seen any postings from it for ages.
    Thanks
    Dave

It is as far as I'm aware but I don't usually bother with it because it
takes so long for anything to get through the East Fleggs.

Perhaps we need to make a test posting

There have been no postings seen from the list since about August 2023.

I asked around at the time and no one had seen any posting either and I
even emailed Keith in the East Fleggs but got no response.

I sent a posting to archive-online some days ago, but nothing has returned.

I did the same in December 2023 with no return.

I guess A-O is now defunct.

The test post I sent on 16th hasn't appeared so I must agree with you.

Gavin Smith told me in March:

I think we can probably assume that Keith of the East Fleggs is no longer
with us, and that the mailing list has gone with him. I have tried to
contact him for many months now, and have had other people try to find him >> too, but alas.

    adding:

It would be little work to start a new Archive mailing list, but I see no
reason to do so. Nowadays, publicly visible forums are better for
everyone, as well as the platform, IMO.

I think Living with Technology is just as good for our purposes.

    What is "Living with Technology"?

Paul Beverly's other magazine, which ran for a few years in the 2000s before
he realised that proofreading was probably a better place to earn a living.
It was later (breifly) reborn as an online community, without Paul's involvement.

If you're careful, there's some history of the original in the Wayback
Machine (the domain seems to have been repurposed some time around 2014).

    https://web.archive.org/web/20030216223331/http://www.livtech.co.uk/

It's later incarnation is mostly here -- http://livingwt.blogspot.com/ -- although the articles have also vanished as they were hosted on another site which has suffered from the dreaded bitrot.

There's also a mailing list which, like AoL, was set up as an arms-length offshoot and is still running with the original subscribers.

I'm not entirely sure in what way it's "just as good" as AoL, however -- the two were very different beasts, with very different subject matter.
