• I have a little Eureka problem

From Dave@21:1/5 to All on Tue Dec 17 12:30:51 2024
    Good day folks...
I have a little Eureka problem, that's the RISC OS spreadsheet app, not Archimedes the Greek geezer. ;-)

    A note of history...
I've been using Eureka since it first arrived in 1992, recreating all my business sheets from Computer Concepts Intersheet into Eureka.

That all worked throughout the rest of my time running the business.
Twelve years ago, I retired, but still use some of the old sheets now.

I have a particular sheet I want to modify a bit, but as so much time has passed since I last did any serious Eureka sheet construction, I've lost
the plot (Unintentional pun :-)) and would appreciate a bit of advice... Assuming there's anyone left out there using Eureka. :-)

Obviously I'm still aware of how to activate the Chart to edit it.

    At http://www.triffid.co.uk/dstuff/Sample01.jpg I've put a jpeg image
grab of a bit of sheet there.

At the bottom of the sheet bit there's a rectangular box with a black
outline with, a blue line "Sys Norm", a yellow line "Dia Norm" etc...

I have no idea how I got that box in the sheet... (That's the thing I want
    to change).

    Any idea please?
    Thanks
    Dave

I, for one, continue to use Eureka, almost daily -- and refer to its
Manual when stuck. (Macros, too, on occasion).

In Eureka with the sheet and the chart visible, Ctrl-Select the chart.
This gives the chart a thick grey perimeter and its own menu. Then either Ctrl-L or Menu -> Options -> Legend to choose where you want the legend.

By default the legend box will have a drop shadow. To repeat your example, Select the legend box, then either Ctrl-F4 or Menu -> Format -> Pattern
and choose None from the Shadow drop-down menu.

Thank you for your thoughts Bernard.
    Appreciated.

However, non of that is a problem... I can edit the legend okay.

To recap what I'd written above.

I have no idea how I got that box in the sheet... (That's the thing I
    want to change).

The box that frames the set of texts and lines at the bottom.

    Any thoughts on that question?

    Thanks
    Dave

Sorry, I thought you were showing us the Legend within the Eureka chart.

If you are showing us the actual cells, then presumably you had exported
just the chart to a Draw file, in which you could have grouped the items
making up the legend, dragged that back onto the Eureka sheet, and stored
the sheet with the carefully positioned legend which, of course, has no
logical relation to the sheet's cell contents or charts.

So, to edit it now, you would Select it in Eureka then Menu -> Utilities
Object -> Save object and drag the Drawfile icon to Draw, alter it
there, drag it back into the spreadsheet, and delete the old one.

    Is this any more relevant?

    Hi Bernard,
It actually is a Legend within the chart, and while I was doing something
else in another Eureka sheet and chart, I suddenly remembered what I'd forgotten... Me... Silly old fart. :-)

While fully in a chart I was editing a Series (Ctrl+S) and realised all
the entries in my problem sheet/chart Legend box were defined in the
    Series dialogue box.

So I'm all fixed now... :-)

    Thanks
