• Cold weather weirdness

From super70s@21:1/5 to All on Sun Dec 25 13:55:23 2022
One of my systems is an old G4 with an Apple Studio Display. I've
noticed the past couple of days when I venture into the unheated 40
degree room in which it's located and start it up, the Displays Control
Panel will launch on its own, right after I launch an application. I
just close the Displays panel and everything works normally. Doesn't
seem to do this after it's been on for a while though.

I'm pretty sure this will go away when we get out of this Arctic cold
snap but I was wondering if anyone could offer a rational explanation
for this. Never experienced a weather-related problem on the main system before, although with a Canon scanner I have hooked up to it the
scanning software will often want to "warm-up lamp" before it
    previews/scans.

Also begs the question -- has Apple ever said anything about a "minimum
room temperature" in which a desktop should be operated?

like nearly all products, apple specifies operating and non-operating
temps, as well as other conditions.

    for an m2 macbook air:
    <https://www.apple.com/macbook-air-m2/specs/>
    Operating temperature: 50° to 95° F (10° to 35° C)
    Storage temperature: 13° to 113° F (25° to 45° C)

    Storage temperature: –13° to 113° F (–25° to 45° C)

Also I was thinking about the computer's fan, my model G4 is
affectionately known as "the wind tunnel" and if the room is only 40
degrees the "wind chill factor" inside could get down to freezing, lol.

40f is already below operating temps, and wind chill is only relevant
    for living things.

    13°F is -10°C ; I think you meant -13°F (which is -25°C)

    Formula:

    (°F − 32) × 5/9 = °C
