• document keeps popping to the front

    From J Burns@21:1/5 to All on Fri Mar 31 07:56:07 2023
About the time I upgraded to Ventura, I began having finder problems.
Two weeks ago, I deleted Texty, which I'd downloaded from the app store.
    No more finder trouble.

Another problem appeared with Ventura. A Libreoffice document will pop
to the front when I'm working on another document or even another app,
such as a web browser. It seems to be the first document opened when I
    launched Libreoffice.

    What could cause this?

Check with the Libreoffice crew. Sounds like they've got a minor bug
that pushes the doc front as if the app just started.

Thanks. Submitting a bug report looks complicated.

I'm using 7.4.6, recommended as the latest tried-and-true version. Older versions appear to be unavailable.

Version 7.5.2 is recommended for the more adventurous. If I tried that,
could I go back to 7.4.6 if the newer one works badly for me?

What if I switched to Apple's Pages and Numbers? I haven't so far
because I'd have to learn a new interface, and I'm afraid my files would
be in a format that I couldn't open if Apple dropped these apps.

    Pages won't open .odt.

Then you'll have to wait until someone else has that issue and it gets resolved. You could try searching whatever LibreOffice forums there may
be on reddit , etc. to see if other have seen the same thing, reported
    it, have a workaround, etc.

Or: is it really an issue or merely an annoyance?

Or: is it due to some strange setting that got bumped along the way?

    Strange.

Version 7.5.2 is recommended for the more adventurous. If I tried that,
could I go back to 7.4.6 if the newer one works badly for me?

I don't know. I'd usually say, "sure" but I've had my own issues with
apps like Safari where I couldn't "go back".

Fortunately the issue with the newer version resolved during a later
    security and app update.

What if I switched to Apple's Pages and Numbers? I haven't so far
because I'd have to learn a new interface, and I'm afraid my files would
be in a format that I couldn't open if Apple dropped these apps.

Esp. if the issue at hand is merely an annoyance, I'd stick with what
you know well until the issue is eventually resolved.

To be sure, while Pages has certain advantages over Word (esp. when
working with artwork, graphs, etc. to insert), Word is my daily driver.

Numbers sucks. The UI sucks. The capability sucks. It's a lightweight.

And for both Pages and Numbers you'll be at odds, format wise, always
having to export to Word/Excel format for others to be able to use the
doc. No direct export to whatever format LibreOffice uses (that I'm
aware of - haven't used it in over 10 years) --- and v-v.

    Pages won't open .odt.

First export to MS Word format, then Pages will open that.

See my other post as well...

No problem. You could even keep both of them

Don't do that. Nobody except Apple cares about them. In the past user
had to accept that newer versions were not downward-compatible so they
could not open their legacy-files anymore. Stick to Open Source Software.
