This is only written for the Mac but it might affect everyone.
    Does it?

    They also discuss
    a. Apple's WebKit
    b. Google's Blink (which is based on WebKit)
    c. Mozilla's Gecko (which powers Firefox)

I like their matter-of-fact style, such as when they said, accurately...
"You don't have to worship Apple to agree IE was terrible"

Where a fundamental premise of the authors appears to be
"It's disheartening Mozilla broke its pledge of over two decades...
But funding had to come from somewhere."

    Mainly the article is about:
"Mozilla's decision to sell Firefox users' data...
came as part of a broader change in the organization's terms of service,
    many of which are worrying"

"Browsers monitoring its users' traffic is exactly
the kind of thing Mozilla was created to fight against."

Regarding Firefox on the Mac specifically, they say...
"Finding Alternatives to Firefox Isn't Hard - Unless You're a Mac User"

What exactly do they sell? My IP address? What use is it for people to
know my IP address? Whenever you go to any website, they are bound to
know your IP address otherwise they can't render the info in your
browser. IP address is no use to anybody except to the authorities and
they get it free of charge because they are legally entitled to know
    this within certain legal reasons.

I spend most of my time on Microsoft or Adobe websites and this is on
public record. Both Microsoft and Adobe knows about me including my
email address, phone number and my address because I buy stuff from
them. So why would they be stupid enough to pay Mozilla for this
    information.

Good question, and just because you are using Firefox does not mean
Mozilla is getting any IP addresses. Does Firefox "phone home" when it
    is configured not to?
OK, on the Mac, Firefox automatically checks for updates, so Mozilla
does get IP addresses from users on those occasions.
I don't see why this is too much of a privacy concern.

(For now) I get DSL through my phone company, and my IP address exposed to
the world traces to the next state over, several hundred miles from my
actual location. So If I chose to downgrade to Firefox, well... good luck
    to them.

What they do to one today, they will try to do to all tomorrow.

I use Tor for browsing or Web searching if the sought after subject is
one I would not want applied to me. Such as health, or an unfriendly
    cultural opinion.

I also use a simple program that places my C: drive in a virtual mode.
Any hidden junk they place down on my computer disappears with a reboot.

Computer users today never know which site they can trust. So, trust
none. That's why links like yours are very helpful for the average user.

It's dated April 3 and has since then been discussed - at length. In
short: a lot of self-proclaimed "experts" had their say about it, but in
the end it was what it was: a storm in a glass of water.

    A. The post by "Marion" / Arlen is just more of the same old
utter nonsense, lies, and misinformation troling that the
    braindead moron always posts.

    B. Even if it was actually remotely true, Google is still a
far far worse choice for privacy. :-\

At least you could suggest the ungoogled chromium version instead. https://github.com/ungoogled-software

However, I think there are essentially only these fundamental choices.
    Mozilla
    Chromium
    Safari

Does anyone have another choice but those three underlying engines?

There are currently only five underlying engines:
    - Webkit by Apple (based on KHTML)
    - Blink by Google (based on Webkit)
    - Gecko by Mozilla
    - Goanna (based on Gecko)
    - NetSurf

Although those last two are minor niche options, and I'm not sure if
they are even still being developed.

All of the numerous different web browser apps use one of those. It's
the browser app (rather than the engine) where you may get problems ...
hence why some people use the "unGoogled Chromium", which will still
have Blink as the underlying engine.
