Topic: Sun's Solaris Environment, an Overview
Sun's Solaris environment is touted as being one of
the most advanced SVR4-based implementations in the
industry. If, however, you are like many people in
the industry, you may be unsure about exactly what
    Solaris has to offer.
Tonight's speaker will present an overview of the
Solaris 2.0 environment, where it is now in the
industry, and where Sun plans to take it in the
future. He will also discuss their port to Intel-
based systems, the Interactive UNIX product line, and
SunSoft's vision of distributed objects technology.
    Who: Jim Herriot, SunSoft
Jim Herriot is the Product Line Manager for the
Solaris products at SunSoft, the software arm of Sun
Microsystems. In this role, Jim is responsible for
operating system directions in general, and the
Solaris 2.0 product in particular. Prior to joining
SunSoft, Jim was responsible for strategy and
management of Sun Microsystems' customer's transition
    to SunOS 5.0 and SVR4.
Mr. Herriot holds a degree in computer science from
Stanford University. He contributed to early UNIX
kernel development during the 1970's and holds the
first UNIX System license for China. During the last
eight years he has turned his technical expertise
toward marketing the UNIX System world-wide.
