Muck is my favorite Wagner conductor. The 1927 recordings have (to me) amazing sound and presence for that recording era, and the
interpretations have a certain magic I find nowhere else. He was at
Bayreuth in the generation after Wagner's death, and I entertain the
conceit that he brings some of the Master's own influence - perhaps
once removed - to his conducting. Does anyone else particularly like
his work, or have any comment on it or on his life and career?
