Sure. (Typically, if you do not want to receive direct replies, you
would note that in the email. Often people do so in their email signatures. Otherwise, it is generally considered polite on Debian
mailing lists to include a direct response.)

Huh? In most of the Debian mailing lists I participate in no one does
    that.

For me it usually means additional work, cause the direct reply is not filtered automatically. I did not care enough to mention it specifically so far, however, if what you say is an accurate representation of what is
going on in Debian mailing lists, despite my perception of the default
being different on them, I may create a special signature for Debian
    mailing lists.

I know its the default for Linux kernel related mailing lists, but to my perception it was never the default on Debian related mailing lists – unless probably if someone answers after such a long time that one might
miss an answer to a mailing list.

As this discussion could be considered off-topic here feel free to reply privately.

In my experience, people usually include the author when replying on Debian mailing lists, which is why I say it is the default. This is because 1) people sometimes post on mailing lists they are not subscribed to, and 2) people sometimes have filters that move mailing list traffic to folders they only
periodically read, but they want to know immediately when someone responds to something they have said (this is particularly important if you are following a large number of Debian mailing lists and receive over 100 emails per day from them).

However, you will see people that both explicitly state they should be directly included in responses and people who directly state they should not be included in responses. If you have strong feelings either way, it is probably best to state which you prefer in the body of every email you send to the list.

In my experience this is thankfully rare.
