    Hi,

Can anybody point me towards a solution to this long standing Debian KDE problem, which started around the time of the t64 transition upheaval.

    Up-to-date Debian testing system.

Audio works with the VLC media player (via Pipewire to ALSA).

The Audio Volume Plasma Widget says "No output or input devices found".
    The following are installed:
    ii gstreamer1.0-pipewire:amd64 1.2.3-1
    ii libkpipewire5 5.27.11-1+b1
    ii libkpipewiredmabuf5 5.27.11-1+b1
    ii libkpipewirerecord5 5.27.11-1+b1
    ii libpipewire-0.3-0t64:amd64 1.2.3-1
    ii libpipewire-0.3-common 1.2.3-1
    ii libpipewire-0.3-modules:amd64 1.2.3-1
    ii pipewire:amd64 1.2.3-1
    ii pipewire-alsa:amd64 1.2.3-1
    ii pipewire-audio 1.2.3-1
    ii pipewire-bin 1.2.3-1
    ii pipewire-pulse 1.2.3-1
    ii qml-module-org-kde-pipewire 5.27.11-1+b1
    ii vlc-plugin-pipewire:amd64 3-3+b1

    Is wireplumber installed?

    pulseaudio has been removed.

    Thanks.
    Andy.

    Thanks,

Can you try creating a blank user account and checking wether it works from there or not?

I expect the outcome to be the same, but still. Can you install

pavucontrol says it cannot connect to pulseaudio. I am guessing this is because wireplumber > pipewire is now in control; pulseaudio has been removed
    and replaced with pipewire-pulse?

Yes but that shouldn’t prevent pulseaudio-anything to work. Pipewire implements the pulseaudio interface natively.

What does pactl info give you ?

    For instance I have :
Server Name: PulseAudio (on PipeWire 1.2.3)

    Yes, seamlessly.
So do you have pipewire-pulse *running*?
