</p><p style="margin-top:0;margin-bottom:0;margin-left:0;margin-right:0;">BUT nevertheless my mail-client (Kmail) d o e s receive every message.</p>
Dear Debian-community,
irregularly an x-window pops up with message:
/The server (my e-mail-server at my standard internet-provider) rejected the user-name and the password. Login failed. Server response is: A000002 NO Authentication failed./ BUT nevertheless my mail-client (Kmail) d o e s receive every message. Serveral attempts by myside to locate the error - believed that problems in Debian 11 with kontact/kmail/akonadi/ could be
the reason.
Anyway distribution-tests in my VM (Debian testing / Debian oldstable / Manjaro) lead to the same message.
So can I find the reason within my Debian 11 bullseye o r is this is a special behaviour within the mailserver at my provider ( A1.net in Austria) This only appears within Linux - my (dual-boot) Windows 10 or my smartphone-app runs without such message !
Any help / tips appreciated.
Greetings Herbert
Additional comment:
Now I have installed MATE-Desktop in Debian 11 a n d configured <thunderbird> as mail-client alternative solution -> no such message.
(all messages are fetched from my mail-server / as with Kmail too :) ).

Further comment of mine (analysis) to narrow down the problem:
1. All emails are fetched from my mailserver (at my service-provider aon.at) 2. Difference of IMAP-Server settings:
within Kmail it is: securemail.a1.net
within Thunderbird it is: smail.a1.net
o.k.--> Thunderbird does NOT produce the error "Mail-Server response:
A000002 NO Authentication failed
3. So therefore I changed Kmail IMAP-Server to: smail.a1.net
Result: Until NOW the error message does NOT appear
Oh wait - just when typing this mail I get the error-message TOO
although 'smail.a1.net' is active
Interesting: Official documentation of my service-provider for implementing email-account does NOT indicate 'smail.a1.net" (!!)
Now I try as imap-server: imap.a1.net with port: 143 (out of official doc of A1.net-Provider

Thank you for your answer. O.k. you gave me an interesting 'homework' (I learned a lot meanwhile, because i am just an ONU (Otto normal user)
My logfiles are here:
https://paste.debian.net/1233928/
logging is done under the logging tab. (the next tab).YES, I have wachted the LOG of akonadiconsole
Hey Herbert,
Well the akonadiconsole debugger shows the prococol of akonadi server
talking to the resources and kmail/kontakt. This is the internal protocol what is not interesting in your case. I have nearly no knowledge about the internal protocol. That's why I cannot tell you why other email addresses
are send to resource 3. It seems like those are searches for mails.
We are interested in the communication resource <-> outside world. The logging is done under the logging tab. (the next tab).
So the competition-question: Why does job akonadi_imap_resource_3 cause
the
pop-up- windows even email are fetched from the mail-server without problems ?
I still have no idea it should not. Maybe the server returns an error code but still returns valid content.

hefee
Hey Herbert,
So today a installed in an VM <suduction>-Linux and ONLY set up
the only one mail-account --> same result.
You properly mean siduction[1]. well they use the same kde pim packages than Debian unstable. So at least we know that it is reproducible ;)
when talking about different VMs, than I would suggest to use KDE Neon unstable[2] in a VM. KDE Neon unstable builds packages from master branch in KDE, you may see if the problem is already fixed. And recently the code to handle encrypted TLS connections were touched to solve CVE-2020-15954.

YES, I have wachted the LOG of akonadiconsole
but too cannot find any characteristic message in there.
As in former message told, I installed too the MATE-Destop;
logged in an only started thunderbird -> so in this case NO error raised up !
So we end up here - there must be a special condition in akonadi/mail
which
causes the mail-server at my ISP (here in Austria = A1.net) to respond
with
this message, but however with no effect on delievering emails to my client.
Perhaps I have a chance/way to contact support-engineers to face them with this message "A000002 NO authentication failed".
Again, THANK you.
Herbert

Hello hefee,
Yes, 'siduction' produces the same pop up window, same behaviour as
in my main Debian 11.2 installation.
So I changed VM-installation siduction -> KDE Neon unstable. Sadly,
but the the same error TOO.
It leaves me somewhat perplexed.
It is a pity - as a normal end-user - but very interested in Debian
since serveral years - I would like to know & explore such behaviour
(in our mails I have learned serveral things :) )
Yes, 'siduction' produces the same pop up window, same behaviour as in my main Debian 11.2 installation.
effect: no error !Fine ! But really don't know why.
Hello hefee,
YES, of course I meant <siduction> :)
So I followed your proposal and installed instead KDE NEON Unstable few days ago in my VM - several updates later -> nothing changed.
The same pop-up windows by akonadi_imap_resource --identifier akonadi_imap_resource_3 (task/process).
- Nothing about this in the log-files of akonadiconsole
- every mail in my inbox has received from imap mail-server
- and again noticed: only my 1st mail-account affected by this behaviour
all my sub-mail-accounts do not show this pop-up window
