• Bug#1093492: php-net-url: useless in Debian

From Andreas Tille@21:1/5 to All on Thu Feb 13 11:50:01 2025
    Hi David,

yesterday the package came up as a candidate for the Bug of the Day[1].
Since at first sight I have only seen bug #822899 and the popcon *votes*
of 45 (which is more than a couple of other packages we salvaged) I've
created a repository for the package[2] and pushed an (admittedly very
simple) fix for #822899 and some packaging upgrades.

Probably I should have checked the full bug log before (which I'm
usually doing - no idea why I missed this) to realise that this package possibly has no real use in Debian.

Since I have no experience with PHP and will not question your insight
at all I'd like to hear your opinion: Does it make sense to upload
the content of the Git repository[2] or is it better to ask for removal
    at all? Any other suggestions?

    Kind regards,
    Andreas.

I raised this bug report pretty late in the release cycle, and the package
is not yet removed from testing (it was marked for autoremoval on 17
February before the current activity in this bug report). My gut feeling is we should wait again a few months (two at most given the freeze schedule), and give people a chance to notice the removal from testing so they can object to the removal. That way, we can quickly close this bug report, and get back the package into Trixie within a day if we need it (and also upload it with the proposed improvements after that). If the package is still out
of testing by 2025-04-15 (start of the Soft Freeze, where re-entry to
testing are impossible), we could get it removed from unstable too.

Fine for me. So I take your answer as: Just leave the repository as is
for the moment. Feel free to simply take over and upload if you see any
need for this. There is no real point in asking back to me.

    Kind regards
    Andreas.
