Hi,
upstream has this to say on
https://github.com/arduino/arduino-builder:
DEPRECATION WARNING: This tool is being phased out in favor of
Arduino CLI, we recommend to use Arduino CLI for new projects.
The source code of the builder has been moved in the arduino-cli repository (as a legacy package) where it will be maintained and developed and eventually moved outside the legacy package once
properly integrated in the Arduino CLI codebase.
The arduino-builder is now just a wrapper of arduino-cli. We will continue to provide builds of this project for some time to allow a smooth transition period to our users.
Please consider if this package should stay in Debian or not.
Hi Chris, you are right, arduino-builder is a dependency for the arduino package, the Arduino IDE. Arduino IDE 2.x version, no longer uses arduino-builder and therefore this package will only make sense to keep
for as long as we ship Arduino 1.x. If/when Arduino IDE 1.x is removed
from Debian's repositories we can safely remove this package as well.
I'm currently unable/unwilling to package Arduino CLI, which would be
the replacement for this builder package. So if anyone wants to have a
go please be my guest.
