• Bug#1106254: RM: fortunes-eo -- RoQA; Unhandled and known for years - r

From Christian Buhtz@21:1/5 to All on Thu May 22 10:00:01 2025
    Package: ftp.debian.org
    Severity: normal
    X-Debbugs-Cc: fortunes-eo@packages.debian.org, garabik@debian.org, holger@debian.org
    Control: affects -1 + src:fortunes-eo
    User: ftp.debian.org@packages.debian.org
    Usertags: remove

The package contain problematic content that could harm the image of Debian GNU/Linux and of course the groups targeted by that content.

    1. Offensive text against women. Reported [1] 2017 (8 years ago).

    2. Racist text. Reported [2] 2018 (7 years ago).

Maintainer (garabik) did not react to it. There was also an uploader (holger) not seeing the problem.

    Technically the package is unmaintained.
It is therefore foreseeable that no one will take care of the problem. To prevent harm to the project, I strongly recommend the removal of the package. This also applies to unstable/testing, despite the hard freeze.

Additionally, there is no upstream project known. The URL in copyright file is dead.

    Thank you very much,
    Christian Buhtz

    Hi,

removal of the package is certainly fine. I just want to add the
information that I just bumped both open bugs to serious and uploaded an
NMU to delayed=1. I do not insist on keeping the package just because
    of this NMU.

Thank you for acting that promptly on the open issue.

    Kind regards
    Andreas.

    Thanks

There is some discussion whether we should rather fix the source package
for Debian to prevent others using the Debian source package since web
search enginges are pointing to this.

So simply removing the package will finally not help if users might
    fetch from snapshot.d.o.

    Kind regards
    Andreas.
