• Do we need dumbster (very simple fake SMTP Server for testing purposes)

From Andreas Tille@21:1/5 to All on Mon Jan 20 13:50:01 2025
    Hi,

the upstream site of dumbster vanished and its not even archived on
wayback machine. It never gained any popcon votes (green line)[1] so
I wonder whether we need this package in Debian (despite it has no
open bugs). If yes, I volunteer to upload it with Vcs fields set to
    Salsa.

    Kind regards
    Andreas.

According to codesearch it is used in apache-log4j2 test suite, though I
don't know if the test suite or tests that use it are actually run when building the package.

FI the sourceforge page still exists [1], the last sourceforge release
dates back 2015-04-04 and the last good capture of the wayback machine
    dates back 2016-12-23 [2].

There is a collection of forks on GitHub, maybe one of them could be
identified as a viable successor. Maybe you could check what the newer
releases of apache-log4j2 are actually using, or just keep that package
around for now if you are unsure.

    Cheers,

Ahhh, that's a pretty good reason to keep it. Thanks a lot for checking!

Thank you for verifying this as well. Seems there was some bad timing
    when I tried wayback machine.

Definitely. Its uploaded with fixed Vcs fields and updated debhelper / Standards-Version now.

    Thank you for the hints

    Andreas.
