• Stuck with linux 6.1.0.17-amd64

    From Alexis Grigoriou@21:1/5 to All on Wed Oct 9 10:20:01 2024
    Hello list,

    It seems like one of my Debian Bookworm installations is stuck on this kernel. All other Bookworm installations are running 6.1.0.26-
    amd64. I installed 6.1.0.26 manually but I got a lot of errors during
    boot and no GUI.

    I remember there was an issue regarding a kernel update a few months
    ago. Could this be the issue I am experiencing? I am also using nvidia-
    driver if this is of any help.

    From the affected system, please show the output of:

    $ apt-cache policy linux-image-amd64

    $ dpkg -l 'linux-image*'

    $ sudo cat /etc/apt/preferences /etc/apt/preferences.d/* 2>/dev/null

    IIRC the kernel issues were around 6.1.0-13, so if your system is on
    6.1.0-17 that's unlikely to be the direct cause.

    I see. Then the problem is almost certainly the nvidia drivers
    themselves. I can't help you there; hopefully someone else can.

    For next time: Please don't word-wrap verbatim data, especially data
    laid out as tables (for example the output of dpkg -l). It makes it
    very difficult to read.

    He doesn't. The vast majority of those kernel packages are in the "rc"
    state (removed, but configuration files are not purged). Most likely
    caused by automatic removal of old kernel images by apt autoremove.

    At some point, the OP might want to purge most of those, just to clean
    up the list and free a tiny bit of disk space. But it's not urgent.
