From Michel Verdier@21:1/5 to All on Thu Apr 10 09:20:01 2025
A poor friend of mine is stucked on w$ and his computer has problems. I
have no access to his system.

Do you know a way to check his hardware, programs such as clamav,
smartmontools or memtest, either running on w$ or from a live system?
But it has to be fully automated or with a simple ui. For example running clamav from shell commands is beyond his power.

You could use some online scanners:
    - https://www.scancircle.com/en

Some pointers on where to look but not in anyway a recommendation.

I assume you mean Microsoft Windows (?). Which version (4.0, XP, Vista,
7, 8, 8.5, 10, 11, etc.) and which edition (Home, Pro, Workstation, etc.)?

Please describe the problems -- operator action, computer response,
    expected response, etc..

So, your friend and the computer are at a remote location and you are attempting to provide technical support via the telephone?

Here is a better list of Windows NT operating systems:

I am not asking help to solve his problem - and obviously I would be on
the wrong mailing list :). I am searching tools suitable for a very basic
user who cannot even type a shell command. I hoped some kind of
tool/distro which could be put on an usb device and could be launched at
    boot.
