    I finally concluded that the bug is in apcupsd, not the kernel. The kernel's watchdog detector is observing and reporting the problem, but apcupsd is causing it. I was on a long vacation, and haven't yet looked at the apcupsd source to see if something jumps out.

    Thanks for reporting back! I'm bit reluctant to reassign it to apcupsd
    since in the end userspace should not cause an issue in the kernel.
    But I will ask the more experienced people in the kernel team what is
    our take on it.
