    Win XP SP3 (x32) Firefox ESR - Just started getting a black screen on
    loading to Startpage.com search engine, just wondering if anyone else
    seeing the same. Chrome and PaleMoon still load the page but not on

    I'm using XP with FFx 52.9 Non ESR.

    I'm getting a blank page for Startpage. It loads for a second or so
    and then disappears.

    It does work with MyPal 29.1.1. They might have discontinued it for
    older FFx versions, as other sites have done.

    Tried with FFx again. Same deal. Comes on for a second and then gone.

    Does Startpage use Javascript ?

    The troublemaker likely comes from Google.

    I had a failure today, where Seamonkey went into a loop
    immediately on entering an enthusiast website for computing,
    and the memory usage shot right up to 2.5GB. I killed it with
    Task Manager. I wouldn't even waste my time trying to
    do "Save As" "Webpage complete" in order to figure out what
    modules are in there. There will always be one from Google.

    Charlie+,

    Its loading using FF 52.5. Than again, I've got JS disabled and
    grease-monkey mucking around with hidden & floating elements.

    Have you already tried

    toolbar -> view -> Page style -> No style

    (IOW, simply disabeling CSS) ?

    Didn't work for my 52.9.0 32 bit

    It was working just the other day for me. I've made no changes to FFx
    in all this time. Something on their end has to have changed.

    Thanks all, not just me then, good to know!
    I tried disable scrips previously and gave it up as that killed so many
    pages visited with FF.
    I tried change style Rudi, got a white page instead - nothing working.
    I tried SP support and got blown off with the 'update your stuff' stuff
    having already told them that was not an option on this particular gear!
    Other private searches I tried to load:
    NO https://searx.me/
    YES https://duckduckgo.com/
    YES https://www.mojeek.com/
    YES https://swisscows.com/
    YES https://metager.org/
    YES https://peekier.com/
    So I'll choose one of the yes's to stick with and dump Startpage on x32.

    Hmmm...

    One other thing you could try is :

    rightclick on the page (context menu) -> View Page Source

    , with the actual search forms* being just a handfull of lines, the first
    one somewhere just below the middle.

    * when looking at the page source search for

    action="/sp/search"

    If you can find those than its just a displaying problem (as me seeing the
    page seems to indicate). If not ...

    P.s.
    I'm using DDG myself, but must say that its results are not all that great - often the same search on Brave or Google turns up more hits.

    Hal,

    FFx in all this time. Something on their end has to have changed.

    I wasn't trying to say you must have changed something, I was just
    suggesting doing a check to see of some kind of "CSS overlay" might be the culprit.

    And by the way: That "NO style" setting only works for the page you apply it
    on (and page-links in it), and will be gone the moment you close that page.

    There is a very easy fix for this. the fix is to spoof the browser
    so that websites think that you are using the latest version.<br>
    <br>
    I suggest close Firefox and then look for the "prefs.js" file. This
    file is normally in the firefox profile that looks something like
    so:<br>
    <br> C:\Users\charlie\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\x6tuhf1l.Firefox-52.9.0esr<br>
    <br>
    These characters (x6tuhf1l.Firefox-52.9.0esr) are normally random
    but I have renamed because I have many versions in my windows 11
    machine so naming them helps.<br>
    <br>
    In the said file (prefs.js) enter the following string (copy &amp;
    paste is the best way to avoid errors:<br>
    <br>
    user_pref("general.useragent.override", "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT
    10.0; Win64; x64; rv:105.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/105.0.3");<br>
    <br>
    Save the file and then launch firefox and it should work. You can
    now browse any websites that checks user agent.<br>
    <br>
    To check your user agent go to this website:<br>
    <br>
    <a class="moz-txt-link-rfc2396E" href="https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-is-my-user-agent/">&lt;https://www.whatismybrowser.com/detect/what-is-my-user-agent/&gt;</a><br>
    <br>
    <br>
    <div class="top">Arrest</div>
    <div class="bottom">Dictator Putin</div>
    <br>
    <div class="top">We Stand</div>
    <div class="bottom">With Ukraine</div>
    <br>
    <div class="top border1">Stop Putin</div>
    <div class="bottom border">Ukraine Under Attack</div>
    <br>
    <br>
    <div class="moz-signature">-- <br>
    <q>We do not live to ourselves and we do not die to ourselves; if
    we live, we live to the Lord, and if we die, we die to the Lord.</q>
    <br>

    going thru all that CSS in there ? Indeed. Possible, but will take a lot
    of work.

    The other possibility is to extract the "search form" part and put it into a local HTML page. Assuming that the results page(s) do not have a problem
    you could /start/ your search that way.

    Personally I've got a local "home page" into which I have put the "search
    form" parts of several search engines*. Makes it easy to pick one.
