I'm losing my old e-mail accounts as they are closed out because my
old version of XP and Firefox cannot access them.
Any XP users know of accounts which still can be used?

You mean Thunderbird?

Thunderbird V52.9.1 (the last that works on XP) is fine on my PC.
However, IIRC, you need to do a small fix to the configuration file to
get over the constant need to do the double authentication.

Email client does not have to be IS-specific. I am using Eudora 6.2 with >Gmail to this day. Annoying to deal every other week with certificates change >but other than that, all is good. All you need is for your ISP to support POP3.

https://msfn.org/board/topic/183663-yubikey-under-winxp/
does Yubikey working under winxp? Wanted to use it to 2f authentication in Gmail?
Yes, he works. Chrome 49, Mypal 68.
Which Yubikey do you have?
YubiKey 5 NFC (https://www.yubico.com/pl/product/security-key-nfc-by-yubico/)
One problem with researching Yubikey for authentication,
is that as soon as you enter "Yubikey" in Google, you are
swamped with 100% manufacturer web pages and there is zero
chance to get information from actual humans.
This is why I can't really research the practical details of
using one of those in place of SmartPhone 2FA for login to Gmail.
If you get a Yubikey, I would put a USB extension cord on it,
as the connector does not look like it would last for 5000
insertion cycles. That way, connector wear will be on the
extension cable metal shell connector, instead of on the
open faced connector of the Yubikey.
You could also look at getting a USB NFC reader for the PC,
assuming you could get a driver for Windows XP...

PS Certificates are the same, they don't change "every other
week" unless you're under a MITM attack, so no "tricks" there(other
than enabling TLS 1.2 in XP).
` I abandoned my Yahoo, Gmail and GMX because I can't login
without giving up personal data, like the number of my non-existent >cellphone.
Tell us how you "beat the system" so we can all benefit from
your "hack".

I could not download my messages since Google started to block the use of third-party apps like Eudora.
So I followed JillB's advice. I'm going to describe what I did, just in case somebody else has the same problem.
The option "App Password" was not visible in my Google Account on the page https://myaccount.google.com/security
I need to turn on 2 factor authentication for the account. This made the option "App Password" appear.
Then I selected "App Password" and generated a special code. I made Eudora forget the old password (Menu-Special-Forget Passwords).
I checked e-mails for the account. Eudora prompted me for the new password. I entered the special code.
Eudora then downloaded the messages.
My Eudora Gmail also quit working this morning. I had been expecting
Eudora to stop working with Gmail since May 30, which is when Google
claimed it would quit working. It also quit working in Agent this
morning.
I followed your steps and now my Eudora is working. Thanks for the
tips.
I was not sure exactly how to enter the new password in Eudora since
the Google web site showed the number in groups of 4. I entered the
numbers without any spaces and that seem to work.

TLS 1.2 in XP is enabled but there is something about Eudora that gets >confused with the certificates that Google seems to be pumpng out
every other week or so (I have two other accounts that do not have the
same problem, with certificates holding up years. That's a well known
problem for Eudora anf Gmail, with no solution. Have to manually
add a new certificate every other week or so...

I don't have a cell phone either and was very alarmed when Google
announced a requirement for F2A. Was able to set it all up without
a cell phone anyway.

I can't fully recall what I did but I do remember that I have followed the >instructions in the couple of posts I am pasting below. Hope it works for you:
