im getting ready to transition my life away from tech

looking for resources on living less dependent on others,
    self-sufficiency, etc.

i hate what tech has become and i used to dream about how wonderful it
would make everyones life, now i want nothing to do with it. especially
    ai.

im starting a board game collection, no subscriptions, no power needed,
lot more fun than video games.

Step one: Turn off the main breaker and see what changes you need to
    make RIGHT NOW.

The power doesn't go off very often here, but when it does the house
is dark and nothing works. If it's day I can take a book/tablet
outside and read. I can garden. I can go for a walk. I can do that
stuff whenever I want to, but I rarely want to.

    especially ai.

I would suggest that perhaps you're doing it wrong. How is it harming
    you?

Facebook is a really good way of communicating with the people who
became almost-friends on usenet and other members of interest groups.
My friends are mainly people I've 'known' on usenet since 1995.
Visited some, some have visited. I've managed to filter out almost everything except the posts of friends and friends of friends. I'm a grown-up. I know how to do stuff :-)

Tech is used for mass data collection nowadays, it's really hard to
    avoid and frankly, really creepy.

Facebook is ok for communication, but I'd rather use a decentralized
platform that doesn't spy on you.

AI is a handy universal expert who gets it right most of the time and
doesn't lie all that often. The bad thing about it is that it's so
easy. I know how to find out information, but what about the kids
coming along who only know about asking questions?

I play on-line Scrabble, mahjohgg (not the real game, just matching
tiles against time) and various forms of solitaire. Much nicer not
having to deal out the real cards.

I guess it can appear that way to some. AI is spicy autocomplete, hence
    the stuff it "hallucinates".

I love mahjong! Playing online is very convenient, nothing wrong with
that, but I hate the centralization.

    Thanks for the conversation
