| Q: Experts feel that the H-1B work permit visa lottery this year
| has been one of the worst for Indians. Many of those who have faced
| disappointment are students on OPT who may now have to return to
| India because they will lose visa status. Is this causing worries
| and stress for your Indian students?
| A: Yes, this is a definitely a cause of stress for students who are
| nearing the end of their OPT period. The number of H-1B visas
| through the lottery every year is limited to 65,000 plus the 20,000,
| which are available for applicants with advanced degrees from US
| universities. This number hasn't changed for many years, even though
| the number of applications has gone up significantly. But on the
| positive side, the pressure of bulk registrations for the H-1B
| lottery by the big Indian IT vendors has gone down to an extent.
| These companies are under pressure to hire locally and get the work
| done in America and that has opened some slots for Indian students
| who are in the US. This balances things a little bit.
