| As a follow-up to the 18,000 jobs that were axed in January, Amazon
| CEO Andy Jassy announced in March that it would eliminate 9,000 more
| jobs. As a result of a recession and a coronavirus pandemic when
| people became internet shoppers, Jassy told workers that the extra
| layoffs were necessary.

| Microsoft said in January that it will cut 10,000 positions, or
| about 5% of its worldwide staff, as it prepares for a possible
| recession. In an email to employees, CEO Satya Nadella said "While
| we are eliminating roles in some areas, we will continue to hire in
| key strategic areas."
