CHARLOTTE, N.C. (WBTV) - Two teenagers were arrested after a Tuesday morning shooting spree across Charlotte, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
Within minutes, between 1 and 1:30 a.m., four shootings along Statesville Avenue, Lasalle Street, Catherine Simmons Avenue, and one more in southwest Charlotte left one dead and others hurt.
Police command said their officers took this particular string of shootings personally, and it was a combination of hard work and a little bit of luck
that brought this reign of violence to an end.
One of the suspects, Carlos Roberto Diaz, 18, was charged with the
following:
First-Degree Murder
Felony Conspiracy to Commit Murder
Five Counts of Attempted Murder
Two Counts of Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle
Two Counts of Shooting into an Occupied Dwelling
Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill/Inflict Serious Injury
The other suspect, a 16-year-old whose name was not released due to his age, was taken to the Department of Juvenile Justice and charged with first-
degree murder. CMPD anticipates more charges for that suspect.
“The time frame, proximity, and evidence collected led detectives to believe the five shooting incidents that occurred [Tuesday morning] were linked,”
the department wrote.
