A man accused of illegally entering the country and sexually assaulting a
minor in Shelby Township was charged earlier this month, police said.
Joel Quintana-Dominguez, 32, was arraigned on July 19 in 41-A District Court
in Shelby Township on three counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct, each a life felony, Shelby Township police officials said Tuesday.
He pleaded not guilty, court records show.
A magistrate set Quintana-Dominguez's bond at $500,000 and scheduled his
next court hearing for Thursday.
A preliminary examination is set for Aug. 8.

"I am disgusted and sickened after hearing the details of this case on what Quintana-Dominguez is being charged with," Shelby Township Police Chief
Robert Shelide said in a statement. "I am also appalled to hear that he had been deported in the past and was able to find his way back into the United States. These types of actions from illegal aliens are harming the country."
Quintana-Dominguez's attorney was not immediately available to comment on Tuesday.
Police said officers on July 15 began investigating allegations Quintana- Dominguez had sexually assaulted a minor. Investigators collected evidence
and determined he allegedly sexually assaulted the youth on multiple
occasions in Shelby Township.
Detectives believe the suspect may have been alerted that police considered
him a suspect and was preparing to flee the country, they said. However,
police located him in a Macomb County mobile home community and arrested
him, according to authorities.
During their investigation, police were informed Quintana-Dominguez entered
the country illegally and had previously been deported.
"Thanks to the swift and decisive action of the Shelby Township Police Department for apprehending this defendant before he could evade justice," Macomb County Prosecutor Peter Lucido said in a statement. "We extend our deepest gratitude to the police for their dedication and commitment to protecting our community and ensuring that justice will be served."
