A former St. Paul substitute teacher is sought by authorities after she was charged with sexually assaulting a 17-year-old boy.

A warrant has been issued for the arrest of Caitlin Kalia Thao, 24, was allegedly involved in the encounter at St. Paul City School in February. She resigned from her position on Feb. 27.

On Feb. 23, police received a report that a teacher, later identified as Thao, was "having sexual relations with a student."

According to the criminal complaint, an executive director at the school informed law enforcement he was aware Thao had pulled the student from class without reason or authority to do so.

The student initially said the two shared a non-alcoholic drink and "she may have messaged him on social media." The executive director also said it isn't the first time he's received complaints from people regarding Thao's alleged inappropriate behavior
    with students.

Thao was asked to meet with school officials on Feb. 26 and she immediately resigned from her position.

On March 13, St. Paul Police spoke with the 17-year-old student, who said Thao was "overly nice," saying she called him "handsome and would flirt with him." He said he flirted back because Thao would buy things for him and his friends.

The victim confirmed Thao had sex with him in a middle school classroom about a month-and-a-half prior to the police interview, the complaint states.

Thao then messaged the teenager on Instagram, discussing the act and her reaction to it. The student said Thao continued to ask the boy for sex in text messages and invited him over to her home when her husband wasn't home, but he declined.

A further investigation revealed that Thao visited Regions Hospital and reported she had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student who attended the school at which she was a substitute teacher. The two met in an English Language Learning class she
    was teaching.

Her husband reportedly found out and contacted the student's mother on March 8.

Thao did not respond to multiple requests from investigators for an interview. She is currently not in custody and has been charged via a warrant.

Thao is charged with one count of 3rd-degree criminal sexual conduct. If convicted, she faces up to 15 years in prison and a $30,000 fine.
