'American Eagle Outfitters (AEO) stock rose over 20% Monday after
President Trump waded into the discussion about the company's viral ad
    campaign featuring Sydney Sweeney.

"Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the 'HOTTEST' ad out
there," Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, the social media platform
he owns. "It's for American Eagle, and the jeans are 'flying off the
    shelves.' Go get 'em Sydney!"

The campaign features a play on homophones — "Sydney Sweeney has great
jeans" and "Sydney Sweeney has great genes" — that quickly generated controversy around the potential ambiguity of the ad's message.

American Eagle responded to the accusations on Sunday in a post on its Instagram page: "'Sydney Sweeney has great jeans' is and always about
the jeans. Her jeans. Her story."

Shares of the retailer have been volatile since the ad campaign was
rolled out in late July. Late last month, the stock was lumped in with

Trump's post on Monday also alluded to recent advertising campaigns from companies including Jaguar and Bud Light, which saw both brands
embroiled in controversies around messaging derided by critics as

Last week, Jaguar Land Rover announced its CEO Adrian Mardell would step

Irrelevant, because American Eagle isn't Made in the USA: they import
their denim from China, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Mexico & Honduras...

...so they're another business that's going to get reamed by tariffs.

So why would any smart investor would be buying them now?

Because even with today's uptick, they're still down -20% YTD

Trump's post on Monday also alluded to recent advertising campaigns

Then what is the point of Trump tariffs?

Blue eyed blonde - code for "Aryan". But that's just an extremist
reaction. The intent is to show you how silly you're being by seeing "wokies" everywhere you look.

Obviously you don't have the same definition of Kowtow that I do.
    Look it up.

If American Eagle would have wanted to Kowtow to the left, libtards,
they would have hired Dylan Mulvaney or a similar freak.
Instead they did the exact opposite, which is NOT kowtowing at all but
more like pissing off the left and it worked splendidly unlike
Mulvaney which cost Anheuser-Bush billions in lost revenue.

    The left, wokies lose again.

I do see more wokies than I would like to however while they are loud in voice they are small in number.
Which is one reason Biden lost in 24.
People, including me, are sick of this twisted way of thinking.

Weren't you just saying that 'greedy corporations' caused offshoring?
Yet here you are offshoring jobs for an even sillier reason than
    squeezing nickels.

    I'm not offshoring anything.

Yes, you are, you're buying foreign made goods.

So I'm supposed to not have a car, refrigerator, stove, clothes, food, prescription medicine and so forth because it's made or made of raw materials manufactured off shore?

Do you hold the greeniac, green new scam people to the same standard?
You might want to look into where, how and the environmental impact of those renewable products you guys tried to foist on the American public.

I don't want to be told what I can and cannot purchase unless there is a real, valid
and dangerous to me reason why I should not.

What do you drive? Where was your refrigerator built? Asking where
your TV was made is unfair since, last I heard, there were no TV sets
made in the US. Update me if you have better information but the last American TV factory was a Zenith one that closed early in Clinton's
    first term.

Actually my ex's family was very good friends with the CEO of Zenith back in the early
    1970's.

    You are making my case.
    I'm for AMERICA FIRST.
We are seriously vulnerable until we gain control of manufacturing as much
    as possible.
I would have thought COVID would have taught you libbys something.

Currently, in comparison to offshore products, there is almost nothing made 100% in the USA and that is a problem.
    A BIG problem.

Here is a good list though.

    <https://clark.com/shopping-retail/american-made-in-the-usa/>

    For electronics, forget it.

    I drive a 2024 Mustang GT.
Assembled in Flatrock MI but surely the electronic components are manufactured overseas.
    There is no avoiding it.

Here is a good list showing where cars/componets are manufactured.

    <https://www.nhtsa.gov/sites/nhtsa.gov/files/2021-06/MY2021-AALA-Alphabetical-6-30-21.pdf>

My Ford Mustang at 77% is one of the better ones and even better than Tesla which
is often marketed as being US made, mostly.

I'm supporting a company who stood up to the wokie left.

Which means you're a bigot. "Woke" is nothing more than a call for colorblind justice.

When the someone disagrees with a libby, they 100% pull the bigot, race, homophobic, xenophobic
    etc card.
Haven't you leftists worn that one out already?
What ever happened to the party of inclusion?

I disagree with tearing down statues, renaming streets, military bases
BLM support, identity politics, DEI, inappropriate to minors reading/viewing material,
the government supporting transgender programs and DEI hiring practices
    CRT, and so forth.

Nothing more than that. You are reading too far into this.

Like you're reading too far into "woke"?

    You can't be serious?
It's dying a quick death these days due to people coming to their
senses and using their own common sense but the last 4 years
it was shoved down our throats.

And BTW, don't misunderstand me, I am 100% for free speech and expression however don't expect or demand me to believe what you believe.

    if it's not about race?

It's not about race at all.
    At least not for me.
    Read above.
As a leftist, you try to make things about race.
    I don't do that.
I'm pretty sure there are just as many white drag queens putting on inappropriate shows
for minors as black drag queens.

of 5 cents per hour labor cost, that is different but that is where tariffs come into play.

The problem is currently it's darn near impossible to buy made in America products.
    That needs to change.

Question isn't if it can be changed, but the cost incurred to do so.

Consider the current tariffs. For sake of discussion that some level of
tariff on China actually "works": products start to be on-shored.

Using the above $100 TV as an example, postulate that the level of
tariffs which "work" to have been high enough such that the retail price
    in the USA becomes $200.

The Made-in-USA producer then competes with a $199 price tag.

But why $199? Because we already know that their costs have to be than
the pre-tariff $100, and we also know that a corporation seeks to
maximize value for their stockholders, so they're going to maximize
their profit margin ... which means its based on the tariff'ed price.

Now let's look at two things:
    a) Government revenues
    b) Net Consumer costs ("inflation")

For (a), because the import has been replaced with domestic, tariff
revenues have to fall. If the marketshare shifts all the way from 100% imported to 100% domestic, tariffs drop to literally $0 collected. That
means that the budget deficit will have to find new revenues from
    somewhere else.

For (b), the consumer's purchase price went from $100 to ~$200, a 100% increase, which is equivalent to 100% inflation. If it took five years
to do the transition, that's +15% inflation rate per year.

So the question is if you're willing as a consumer to incur a half
decade (or more) of ~double-digit inflation in order to reshore?

Why are we vulnerable by buying medications from our friends and
    allies?

Point is, if we can make it here in US, why not?

Same as above: it will cost more.
So are you willing & able to pay?

No man is an island. No nation can stand alone.

True however they can increase their chances of survival by not
depending on foreign nations for the means to survival.

Except that one of the things we've learned in the 20th century is that economic inter-dependencies improves national security by being an
    incentive barrier to conducting wars.

If we can make it here.
    Make it here.
If we cannot, then purchase it abroad.

A good example is fossil fuels.

WTF are we purchasing fossil fuels from countries who hate us when we have
at least as much, maybe more, of our own fossil fuels here in USA?

    Does that make sense?

    Yes, it does make sense.

Reason being that crude oil isn't anywhere near as fungible as the
layperson believes it to be: refineries are very sensitive to and
highly optimized to what crude inputs (& refined outputs) they
manufacture, so changing sources away from what it was designed for
incurs relatively high costs in a low profit margin industry.

    Another example.
Why did the previous administration hamstring fossil fuel development and
at the same time try to force the country towards renewable energy when
our adversary, China, produces much of what is needed for renewable energy?

    How stupid is that?

Gosh, I seem to recall a similar whine about "picking winners & loser"
when Obama tried to kickstart the domestic solar panel industry.

Likewise, the Biden Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act was also
seeking to improve domestic production for alternatives.

How were these not doing what you're now asking for? Were you throwing
the baby out with the bathwater because you personally happened to
dislike some additions which were to garner adequate votes to pass?
Go look at who still voted 'No', despite how it helped their districts.

    But they will buy them.

Then why haven't they? From the cheap transistor radios from Japan
that every 1960s teenager had to the televisions in every home in
America today, if Americans had bought American, we wouldn't be having
    this discussion.

Because the American versions are non existent.
    This no longer 1960's.
There is no alternative at the moment for various reasons mostly corporate greed.

Do you not understand how much leverage we get by being the market
    everybody wants to sell in?
    Of course.
But that doesn't preclude Made In The USA products.

Surveys have shown that as long as American made goods are reasonably >>priced, people will buy them.

<laughter> But isn't that the point? American made goods are always
more expensive than foreign made competition because ours is a more
advanced economy. Americans won't spend $5 extra for a coffeemaker
just because it's marked, "Made in USA".

Depends upon how much more expensive.
Example there are plenty of Made In America products who advertise that fact massively.
    Allegiance Flag Company is one.

    It depends on price.

Sure USA cannot compete dollar for dollar with China's manipulated economy however if the USA comes clos in price and better in quality then people might just buy.
    I know I would.

Sure, I'm not going to pay $12.00 for a light bulb made in USA when I can buy a made in China one for $3.50.
    But I might buy a $4.00 one.
For me, it's not all about price.

When you charge a tariff to make that imported coffeemaker $2 more
than the American one, all you've done is artificially force prices
higher. Cheap goods in the stores is effectively the same as a rise
in wages for a consumer because it means he can buy more than he could before.

Yet, that is now things are working out are they?
    Again FAIR TRADE.
That's what tariffs attempt to achieve.

    Sure it is.
China has slave labor making products.
    USA does not.

Now if China floods the market with $100 28 inch flat screen TV's because >>of 5 cents per hour labor cost, that is different but that is where tariffs come into play.

Iow, tariffs are used by government to make everything more expensive.

Come on already swilly. You can't be this ignorant.
Tariffs are to encourage free/fair trade.
If everyone played nice in the sandbox tariffs would not be needed.

The problem is currently it's darn near impossible to buy made in America products.

    Because they're too expensive.

    That needs to change.

Why? What you miss is the stuff we do make and export. We make the
tools that make the goods. We innovate the technologies that create
new goods. The US is the world's number one provider of services.
Services are a huge part of our export business.

Which would you rather do for a living? Make stuff or control the
flow of others' information and money?

Why are we vulnerable by buying medications from our friends and
    allies?

    Today's friend/ally is tomorrow's adversary.

Only if we make them so.

China happily sold us PPE prior to COVID.
Once COVID hit China was silent on exports.

Because they were running out of PPE. What so many forget is that
China was hit much harder than we were by COVID and we did the good
neighbor policy of helping them out. Same as in the 1970s when US
taxpayer dollars were used to feed starving Russians in the thick of
    the Cold War.

Feeding those hungry millions created lots of good will for us in
Russia and in other lands who saw us feeding our adversary instead of
    letting them starve.

US policy: You catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.
Conservative policy: Bring out the DDT.

In fact the US actually shipped PPE to China.

Well, there you go. What's the problem?

Point is, if we can make it here in US, why not?

Because trade is essential to "world peace".

No man is an island. No nation can stand alone.

True however they can increase their chances of survival by not
depending on foreign nations for the means to survival.

Interdependency is crucial to species survival. You won't attack your markets or your suppliers. That's why there is war in Ukraine.
Neither side provided anything crucial to the other. All wars start
because of trade imbalances. Russia and Ukraine were actually
competitors in certain markets and then lots of energy was found in
Ukraine. So Russia invaded in order to steal it.

Cut off all your friends and family. Live alone. Entirely alone.
Don't ask for help for anything.

    See how long you last.

    Stupid analogy.

Makes perfect sense. You just hate it because it's true and because
it scales up to an international level.

If we can make it here.
    Make it here.
If we cannot, then purchase it abroad.

I disagree. Interdependency does more to prevent war than any amount
of guns. That's why the US offered that policy after WWI and why it
enforced that policy after WWII. Open trade has kept the peace for
eighty years. We COULD be entirely self sufficient, but how would
that give us leverage to enforce Pax Americana?

A good example is fossil fuels.
WTF are we purchasing fossil fuels from countries who hate us when we have >>at least as much, maybe more, of our own fossil fuels here in USA?

Because the oil companies won't invest in the specialized equipment
needed to refine the type of oil we have.

    Does that make sense?

    Another example.
Why did the previous administration hamstring fossil fuel development

It only did that in right wing propaganda. FACT: the US overtook both
Saudi Arabia and Russia to become the world's largest oil producer
under Biden. FACT: The oil companies aren't limiting their drilling
because of regulations, they're limiting their drilling because prices
are low. They aren't going to drill if it means pushing oil prices
    lower than their profit point.

Currently, gasoline costs no more than it did in the early 1960s.

    and
at the same time try to force the country towards renewable energy when
our adversary, China, produces much of what is needed for renewable energy?

Is it China's fault that rightists turn their back on new
technologies? Had you not thought that if China is hell bent on
developing renewables that it would be a good idea for us to do the
same so we can lead in that field? Europe is also heavy into
renewables and most of the innovation in non fossil energy is coming
    from China and the EU.

Have you not considered the significance of an energy base that's
    independent of global commodity markets?

    How stupid is that?

Not as stupid as rightists trying to bring back the 19th century.
