    Huh? I am confused.
I receive Social Security benefits, and my Medicare comes along with it. ( I think)

Seems if you paid in for 40 years you should have a good Medicare benefits. Caveat: I don't know shit about this.... My Son handles all the finances.

Yes hospital stays are $$$. I have Kaiser Ins. I guess should have a supplemental policy on top of Kaiser Inc. I met a man in the hospital who's drug were OVER THE TOP $$. He had bought an extra policy...which paid for some drug that cost over $1,

Yea I have heard such stories.... I suppose I should have a review on my policy while I am healthy. I haven't any idea what sort of policy I should shop for maybe other posters have something to add on the subject..

With Medicare, 2 choices you have, A and B, A cover hospitals, plan is free, but B cost $170/month which covers doctors etc... and D plan covers medications.
Other choice is C - the Advantage plan, which covers everything, A,B, D and others but only pays 80% on most things.
If you get cancer or other nasty illness, advantage plan can cost you dearly, also with the advantage plan one can only use network doctors in your area.
So, if you need a specialist in Texas, your out of luck.
First choice A,B cost more upfront, because you have to by G plans, substitutes which can cover everything and you can pick any doctor anywhere.
So, this is Medicare for people at 65.
That's why they say the American healthcare system sucks for ordinary middle class people, because can be expensive?
But the course the rich can buy anything and poor is taken care by the government.

Here are a few relatively easy things to know about the Medicare
    Supplement "Letter" plans:

    * SAME COVERAGES:

Plan A, F, G, etc. from any company is mostly identical in coverage to
the same letter plan from any other insurer. The differences, if any,
are in things like whether and how much you're covered when you're in
    another country.

As to what's covered, in general, Supplement plans don't cover any
procedures not covered by Medicare. So, if some procedure (e.g.,
laser assisted cataract surgery) isn't covered by Medicare, it's
equally not covered by a Supplement. What the Supplements cover are
the 20%, the deductible, etc. Medicare doesn't pay for the procedures
    it covers.

    * DIFFERENT PRICES:

While the plan coverages are the same, the prices most definitely are
NOT. I found it useful to look at "price doubling" times: at what age
is the price twice the price at 65?

One plan reached double around late 90s to 100. Many plans reached
double the price in late 80s and early 90s. Some plans doubled after
just 15 years, hiding it by giving a gradually decreasing "discount"
    over the first 15 years.

At least one (and IIRC, two), has flat rate pricing: the premium
depends only on your age when you sign up and does not go up with age.
(It does, however, go up for inflation.)

The ones that double the fastest usually try to lure you in with
really low prices in the beginning.

What does the best coverage cost? I recall a man in the hospital saying his meds cost HUGE$ but he had bought an add on plan which covered the best drugs. Something crazy I recall like $1200 a day... I wonder what those plans cost.

I wonder what those plans cost.

Part D (drug) plans are all over the map in terms of monthly premium,
what drugs they cover, how much you'll pay for any particular drug,
whether that drug is covered by the plan at all, preferred providers,
how much you'll save if you buy from their designated mail order company instead of from a local drug store, etc. For which drugs are covered
and which of the 5 "tiers" they fall into, see the plan's "formulary".

To your question, though, I think (but am not certain) that pretty much
all Part D plans have an upper bound on out-of-pocket costs. The limit
depends on the plan, but I think the limits are generally under $10k
    (e.g., $6k-$8k) a year.

The actual details of how Part D plans work is more complicated ... ("deductibles", "co-pays", "donut hole"/coverage gap, "catastrophic
    coverage", etc.).

how much you'll save if you buy from their designated mail order company instead of from a local drug store, etc. For which drugs are covered
and which of the 5 "tiers" they fall into, see the plan's "formulary".

To your question, though, I think (but am not certain) that pretty much
all Part D plans have an upper bound on out-of-pocket costs. The limit depends on the plan, but I think the limits are generally under $10k
    (e.g., $6k-$8k) a year.

The actual details of how Part D plans work is more complicated ... ("deductibles", "co-pays", "donut hole"/coverage gap, "catastrophic coverage", etc.).

    Thanks for chiming in.
It seems to me that it is complicated by design..

I have 3 expensive meds that I use. Here in CA, there are plans thru my pharmacy where my meds are just pennies without using medicare. Also I have one med made by a pharmaceiutic company that I get for free by proving my low income.

This is crazy because they go by taxable income. The taxable income is not my real situation. I make good money with SS and a pension, but my orange businesses throw off losses that decreases my taxable income.

    Using Medicaid?
Yes, it gos by earnings for the year and pay for everything, unless one have serious illness!
I heard from a woman, her mother had Medicaid, but when she had a brain tumor, Medicaid didn't cover it. Her mother had to sell the house to pay for the medical expenses of half million dollar.
    Ouch!!!!
    Medicare pays 80% of medication.
My medication cost all most $3k/month, so with medicare out of pocket would be $600 / month + $170 for the insurance per month.
Seems, it"s better to stay low income and use Medicaid than Medicare.

You do not have to hire a specialist. They work for free. Look them up using Yelp. Be sure to not get Medicare part C (advantage). That is an HMO and you cannot see any doc you want. Medicare part C makes the most money off the gov and so promotes the

    Do you have MediCare?
I only paid in for the minimum 10-years (Self-Employed) I get taxed on it too.
What is your benefit after paying in for 40 years?
Don't have Medicare yet, but eligible.
    It's $170/month, plus lot of co-pays!
Like, for hospitalization, $1560/90 day period deductible, others like doc visits, medication etc... 80% paid, 20% by the patient!
Right now, I have MedicAid, pays everything!
Nice to be covered. Worth getting a policy for medication too. Some WONDER drugs are very speedy

That should have read: Some of the new wonder drugs are very costly...
Insurance pay for it, that's all!
My meds cost $3k/month, I pay $0 with Medicaid!
2 years ago I had a surgery, cost me $0.
    👍🤗
Yes hospital stays are $$$. I have Kaiser Ins. I guess should have a supplemental policy on top of Kaiser Inc. I met a man in the hospital who's drug were OVER THE TOP $$. He had bought an extra policy...which paid for some drug that cost
over $1,500.00 a day which saved his life.

You do not have to hire a specialist. They work for free. Look them up using Yelp. Be sure to not get Medicare part C (advantage). That is an HMO and you cannot see any doc you want. Medicare part C makes the most money off the gov and so
promotes the most. Kick them to the curb. Get A, B and supplemental (PPO). Also part D for drugs.

Yes. I am satisfied with Kaiser. They are easy to deal with but it is Corporate Medicine. I am on Kaiser Medicare now so my premium is low. For years it was $750 a month. (For 1 Person.). . Never mind when I was married with 3 kids. I never had any

US healthcare is based on privet insurers, other countries like Canada, EU etc... Government plays a big role, that's why free!
For some reason Americans resist socialized healthcare, when it really benefits most people and not just a few!

Several years ago, I was on a tour bus in Italy. Our guide said everyone bought private insurance even though there was gov health insurance because the gov insurance was so bad. Healthcare in the US is expensive, but it is the best in the world.
Be careful with Kaiser. It is an HMO. I have had relatives diagnosed with Cancer who are told that the best specialists for their type of cancer are at hospital xxx in city YYY. If that hospital is not in the Kaiser network, you are screwed. You
want a PPO plan where you can have your insurance pay no matter where you choose to get treatment.

He had bought an extra policy...which paid for some drug that
cost over $1,500.00 a day which saved his life.

Yes, Medicare A,B has supplemental plans which can cover everything.

You mentioned your medications are $300Been on it forever. a month. Whats the skinny on that?

You do not have to hire a specialist. They work for free. Look them up using Yelp. Be sure to not get Medicare part C (advantage). That is an HMO and you cannot see any doc you want. Medicare part C makes the most money off the gov and so
promotes the most. Kick them to the curb. Get A, B and supplemental (PPO). Also part D for drugs.
I only know Kaiser Medical . It is Corporate Medicine.
They treat me right but I have nothing to them compare to.
I had Kaiser for many years,
    They're OK!
Yes. I am satisfied with Kaiser. They are easy to deal with but it is Corporate Medicine. I am on Kaiser Medicare now so my premium is low. For years it was $750 a month. (For 1 Person.). . Never mind when I was married with 3 kids. I never had
any health issues. Thank god for Medicare, Still with Kaiser... So are my Kids..
    $750/month?
    Why so high?
    Medicare is $170/month!
    😱😱😱😱😱🤔
Before I qualified for Medicare I was paying $750 a month for my Kaiser premium. I paid that for many years while I was healthy and still am healthy. That was a big nut to crack every month.. Now still with Kaiser Medicare but paying next to nothing..
Health care is all fucked up in America IMO.
Several years ago, I was on a tour bus in Italy. Our guide said everyone bought private insurance even though there was gov health insurance because the gov insurance was so bad. Healthcare in the US is expensive, but it is the best in the world. Be
careful with Kaiser. It is an HMO. I have had relatives diagnosed with Cancer who are told that the best specialists for their type of cancer are at hospital xxx in city YYY. If that hospital is not in the Kaiser network, you are screwed. You want a PPO
plan where you can have your insurance pay no matter where you choose to get treatment.

    Kaisers are everywhere!
We were in Hawaii 20 years ago, my wife stepped into one of those spiky sea urgent.
It's spike broke into her feet, needed surgery.
Driving back to the hotel, Kaiser was there, but long line of patients.
The nurse took my wife right in front of the waiting line .
Surgery was done, all payed for!
My company had Blue Shield for years, the co-payments we're killing me!
Kaiser was much better, cheaper, everything in one place!

Apparenty WE love to be in a war of some sort. The US defense spending props up the economy.
