“Guns kill more people than cars,” Skinner said. “Yet gun owners are not required to carry liability insurance like car owners must. Why should taxpayers, survivors, families, employers, and communities bear the $280 billion annual cost of gun
violence? It’s time for gun owners to shoulder their fair share.”

Because most guns are kept in safes and have never even been looked at for 20 years. What are the odds that your gun will be used in a mass shooting. Oh I know, somehow you will get the mass shooter to buy insurance.
THIS IS ANOTHER CASE WHERE YOU MAKE GUN OWNERSHIP MORE DIFFICULT FOR HONEST AND HARMLESS OWNERS. You want to target the criminal or nut.

If you have a gun , never used for 20 years, sits in the safe than why you want to own it?
Maybe you like to spend nights just cleaning it and tell war stories to your kids?
Do you own a car, which sits in a garage, never driven, but pay insurance and taxes on it?
    Crazy!
Criminals use unmarked or stolen guns, but don't kill 20 kids in elementary schools.
Problem with the mass hooters , they are kids and can buy guns legally.
If the criminal gets caught, not having insurance for the gun, it just raises penalty and financial burden higher, if his crime created 1/2 or 1 million dollar damages, medical cost.

If I want to keep my guns in my safe I can if I want. Why I want to own them is none of your business. Just like deciding on abortion is none of your business. I can also keep collector cars in my garage without insurance. I do not even need to
    register them.

Yes, you can keep the gun in the safe, but if you take your guns out to use in public places, you need insurance.
Like Dick Chaney should have insurance before he shot that lawyer.
    (o:
The place where I live, the association rule, all cars has to be registered to keep it in the parking lot.
If not, car will be towed at owners expense!
So, rules and regulations differ, exmpl, you can't keep unregistered cars on the street.
I can go on and on!
You are only looking it your situation, when rules and regulation change from towns, counties, states!
This coming to guns also, maybe some counties are more lenient, while others strict, depends from the crime rate.

Seems to me that you are more a part of the problem than part of the solution. We need a GUN tax payable yearly. Get caught with an unregistered gun and go to prison. Have rewards for exposing unlawful gun ownership...

Most responsible gun owners do what you say. For the others, how are you going to police them? NRA for years has promoted safe use and storage of guns. Perhaps all new gun owners need a handbook for safe gun handling.

Problem comes for owners in ghettos that want quick access to their guns. They do not want to lock them up. They need to use small "nightstand" safes that they can open with a finger pattern. Put that in the handbook too.

“Guns kill more people than cars,” Skinner said. “Yet gun owners are not required to carry liability insurance like car owners must. Why should taxpayers, survivors, families, employers, and communities bear the $280 billion annual
cost of gun violence? It’s time for gun owners to shoulder their fair share.”
Because most guns are kept in safes and have never even been looked at for 20 years. What are the odds that your gun will be used in a mass shooting. Oh I know, somehow you will get the mass shooter to buy insurance.
THIS IS ANOTHER CASE WHERE YOU MAKE GUN OWNERSHIP MORE DIFFICULT FOR HONEST AND HARMLESS OWNERS. You want to target the criminal or nut.
What evidence have you to prove your claim? Because I call BullShit. You are just making this statement up. The FACTS don't square up. You might be a responsible gun owner and there are many responsible gun owners. However there are over 70%
that keep their guns UNPROTECTED in closets and drawers. Get your facts right!
Some states have no regulations at all, how guns and ammo should be stored.
Kid in Michigan just stole his fathers new handgun, which was kept in the desk drawer, took it to school and killed 5-6 kids.
Michigan has no laws about how to keep or store guns.
    LOL!
So glad voters are smarter than you clowns. BTW, what part of 2nd amendment are you too dense to understand. BTW, All schools need guards, metal detectors and cameras. How badly do politicians want to stop school killings. Apparently not much. They
want to implement ineffective gun laws then hope and pray they work. HOW ARE YOU GOING TO FORCE OWNERS TO KEEP GUNS IN SAFES? Come on geniuses...... How does insurance prevent mass shootings? That just pays off the parents after the kids are dead. Now
what is wrong with that statement. Think real hard now, geniuses....
Schools have that, guards, cameras etc..., the problem, kids can buy guns like candies or steal it from family members.
Insurance on guns just raise awareness for gun owners , firearms are not a toy, but responsibility too, so keep it safe or to pay. Insurance rate can go up for irresponsible gun owners.
Don't just leave guns around the living room, car , kids to play with it whenever they like.
Do you let your 13 year old drive your car? No!
My in-law was a marine, he had a dozen or so guns, but he had it locked in a safe and the ammo locked up in a different place in a cabinet. He even made his own ammo too.
He had a few nice looking old rifles and pistols, I think antique, locked in a glass door cabinet, just for show .
Too many hillbillies and kids out there, not responsible gun owners and they ruin the party.
The Sandy Hook killer, Adam Lanza who killed 26 people at school + his mother and himself, had a number of mental illness, like autism, OCD, schizophrenia, but his mother was teaching him how to shoot guns. LOL!

It's not enough to promote it, has to be chiseled into law.
If they don't lock up their guns, fines need to be payed!
Gun locks should be enough , if no gun safe is available.
Lets promote gun safety laws, rather than just selling guns?
CA has laws how to transport firearms, while many other states has nothing! Fed. has to step in and force uniform laws across all states.

Today wars are fought with missiles , planes and aircraft carriers, in which the US is the strongest in the world, but these fools think with their small caliber guns can fight a modern army?
    What a joke?

“Guns kill more people than cars,” Skinner said. “Yet gun owners are not required to carry liability insurance like car owners must. Why should taxpayers, survivors, families, employers, and communities bear the $280 billion annual cost of gun
violence? It’s time for gun owners to shoulder their fair share.”

I agree. They should have gun liability insurance. Get caught with a UNINSURED weapon and you lose your rights to own a gun.

YOUR STATEMENT THAT 'MOST GUNS ARE KEPT IN SAFES' IS WRONG....
Yes you might keep you guns safely locked away, But I assure you that MOST guns in America are not stored in Gun-Safes.
You're in denial. Maybe you have them locked away in you home but most guns are left unsecured. Same with the AMMO,
There are so many older guns out on the street....

What evidence have you to prove your claim? Because I call BullShit. You are just making this statement up. The FACTS don't square up. You might be a responsible gun owner and there are many responsible gun owners. However there are over 70% that
keep their guns UNPROTECTED in closets and drawers.

I like the idea of paying GUN insurance, $100 per weapon yearly.
Have a unregistered gun? Go to Jail and loose your right to own a gun. -Spit!
