Protesters block road into Burning Man festival; rangers ram blockade

Burning Man is a festival that takes place in the Nevada desert
Protesters put up a blockade on the road in, causing a traffic jam
Videos show police ramming the blockade and arresting activists

Climate activists caused a miles-long traffic jam when they blocked
the only road leading into the Burning Man festival in the Nevada
    desert.

Videos posted online show activists using a trailer to block the road
that leads into Black Rock City. One video posted to X, the social
media platform formerly known as Twitter, shows a white pickup truck
appearing to be from the Pyramid Lake Ranger Station crashing through
the barricade set up by protesters.

The blockade led to clashes with motorists and tribal rangers, the Los
Angeles Times reported. Pyramid Lake, a tribal law enforcement agency,
did not respond to the Times' request for comment.

The group behind the protest, Seven Circles, said the purpose of the
blockade was to draw attention to "capitalism's inability to address
climate and ecological breakdown," according to a news release. Seven
Circles said Burning Man has been commodified by "affluent people who
do not live the stated values" of the festival.

What Is Burning Man Like? - Burning Man 2019 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5zKA66H5Rw

The Burning Man event has taken place on public lands on Nevada's
Black Rock Desert Playa since 1990. Events in 2020 and 2021 were
    cancelled for in-person attendance. 2023 dates: August 27-September 4.

The annual festival draws 70,000 people to create a temporary city in
the northern Nevada desert, and the week each year culminates with the
burning of the Man structure Saturday night and then the Temple
    structure on Sunday.

This is a fact. Like most counterculture movements, it eventually
becomes fashionable and then gets coopted by the wealthy. This thing
has been a farce for several years now. Shut it down.

Looks like a disaster of a festival. Maybe this will dampen everyone's enthusiasm. I'm told BM is an ecological travesty with tons of trash
    left behind etc.

Unknown, but sounds like the pot calling the kettle black. In every
crowd, most people are good, but others will throw their trash on
    highways/etc.

Don't know who the landowner is, but I would assume whoever would not
    approve.

I see them in their artistic ways, and never dug into their specifics.

"Burning Man's contract stipulates that no more than one square foot
of debris per acre can be left behind after the event.

Burning Man participants are expected to clean up the desert playa.
And after the event, Burning Man typically deploys a team of
volunteers and staff to deal with any remaining litter."

    Thus onus is on BLM...

Where does the trash go after a game at Michigan Stadium?

Monday mornings after home football games, trucks roll in with bags of
waste collected from the stadium two days earlier.

    Sidebar

In 1989, Pink Floyd's mesmerizing concert in Venice led to the
resignation of the city council. Around 200,000 fans attended the
event, and an astonishing 100 million viewers tuned in to watch.
Unfortunately, this massive gathering resulted in 300 tons of trash
being left behind, transforming the city into what was described as a
"floating toilet," ultimately prompting both the city council and
    mayor to step down.
