Elon Musk says Twitter, now X, could charge all users subscription
    fees

Billionaire also says platform has 550 million monthly users
generating up to 200m posts a day

Elon Musk has indicated that X, formerly known as Twitter, is
considering charging all users for accessing the platform.

The X owner said erecting a paywall around the business would ward off
the bots, or automated accounts, that have become a bugbear for Musk.
    ...
    ...
"We're moving to having a small monthly payment for use of the
    system," Musk said.

Saying that bots cost "a fraction of a penny" to set up, Musk added
that raising the cost of an account to "a few dollars or something"
could put off operators of the software. He added: "Plus, every time a
bot creator wanted to make another bot, they would need another new
    payment method."

That's good news for him. Because no one wants to pay to advertise there anymore. The subscription model may be the only avenue remaining to him
to recoup his massive investment and imminent loss.

I reckon by the time he's done with the place, it will look vaguely like
Trooth Social or any other echo chamber where people of only one political/social persuasion scream outrage at each other.

    Unlike this place.

He's suggesting this will remove the bots....which I suspect is a
    false rationalization.

"Musk also said X had 550 million monthly users generating up to 200m
posts a day. Previously, the platform had measured its user base by a
different method, monetisable daily active users, which stood at 238
million before Musk bought the business in October 2022."

I don't plan on putting money in his pockets....he's gambling that
people are so addicted, they will cough up the bucks. I would miss
seeing the funny videos, and those with earnest thoughts, news.

When these paywalls are erected, I suspect most will not join.
